And thats why i quit back then.

Been at this for over an hour trying to get on Aether Data Center. This is inexcusable.
Its easy to just say fix your issue first , you clearly have never worked in computing a day of your life or have never cared to even know how it works before you complain.
FF14 is one of the largest actual MMO and requires a lot of work when issues like this happens . They have to find the issue before they can even think about fixing it and something it just isnt as simple as just rebooting your PC or going to the store and replacing your busted CPU fan . This is a network issue that is probably caused by the overloading of player returning to the game with the expension coming . They clearly didnt expect to have such a success .
-snip-
No where did I say I expected this not to take time. But I'm sorry that when I see a promo in trying to get more people into their game, when they already know that a DC is having issues, it annoys me a little. If this was advertise before the issues then I won't have an issue. But I'm pretty sure this was 3 days ago, when they knew the DC(s) were having issues. I know MMOs first launches are funking. I've been through many. I don't expect perfect launches from anyone because I know that no one over plans on things it seems anymore. (Though I know this also takes money and I know no one really wants to over plan like I/players want them too lol.)
And if they do give us something then fine. I would be more happy if they came out right now and been like "Look we don't know an eta, but we have plans to give you guys x thing when it's fix!" SE is a big enough company they can give us some sort of update through out the days without pulling anyone away from actually fixing things.
I'm more upset that one DC has the 2 largest NA servers on it and that's why we are having issues. Like, why did they let this happen? And they said this was the cause of it. There are too many people signing in for mainly these two worlds. They know the issue and I know they are working on it. I'm glad they are. But they need to fix it before trying to get more people in. How do you think people are going to feel if they come back and can't get online? They aren't going to want to repay for this again.
All I'm saying is that they should fix something that is broken and that "coming back" players will feel before they promote it again. I know there are more things behind the door. And I know how network issues are. How server issues are. But there is things you should and shouldn't do. And I feel like an "Welcoming" event is one of the things you shouldn't do when your servers are being unstable.
It's like doing a re-grand opening of a store when one section of it is still being worked on and it just happens to hold two of your most popular selling items.

I'd agree with you but they did have their pre-orders so they had a general idea on how many people would come along and play especially during peak hours. So I can't agree that they didn't expect a success. Its easy to just say fix your issue first , you clearly have never worked in computing a day of your life or have never cared to even know how it works before you complain.

Computing is not all hardware and software, it's also customer service and public relations, which is something covered in A+ Certification. Its easy to just say fix your issue first , you clearly have never worked in computing a day of your life or have never cared to even know how it works before you complain.

- This is a PR nightmare.
- They overpromised and under delivered with their prelaunch festivities for those on the most congested login server.
- Their communication is terrible. They have made no public statements for those impacted other than a small blurb on 6/19, and that has nothing to do with the login servers specifically. They have failed to provide any information on what they are doing to alleviate the solution.
Potential Solutions
- Make open statements, even an acknowledgement of the problem would suffice with periodic updates. With this, there is no need to state specifically what the problem is, merely an acknowledgement of the problem and that they are working on it. Periodic updates (every 6-12 hours) would be appreciative.
- Compensate those who have characters on the impacted worlds.
- Provide an additional special item to those who pre-ordered for being unable to play during early access. I'd consider expanding this to all players.
- Delay any preplanned special events (ie: Return to Eorzea, Summer/Holiday events, etc.) until the issue is fixed.
- Extended customer support hours should have been planned during this time period regardless of server expectations to accommodate returning players.
To close:
1. As many players have stated, they were fully aware of the success as they had direct access to the pre-order data, so that is a false claim. A more accurate statement would be "they didn't know/understand the impact their success would have on the servers."
2. Not everyone complaining are spoiled brats with a weekly allowance. Some of us, believe it or not, are grown adults that have limited time to be able to play and have been unable to do during our spare time when not handling other responsibilities. Understand that time is valuable because we don't get it very often.
3. Most MMO's that have launched over the past decade have not experienced difficult launches, WoW being an exception due to a higher than average popularity for an MMO.
Settle down bro. It's not even launch. It's pre-launch. It's to be expected. I've been in the same boat for the most part, so no, I'm not among the 'privileged few' that can get in and stay in. It's pure congestion. I'm sorry but that's all it is. There's NOTHING they can do to fix this. They're not going to migrate an entire server to a new physical locale. I'm sorry, but that's not going to happen. It's financially stupid to do that as a business. Besides, then that data server will be having the same problem, because Gilgamesh is among the top 2 or 3 highest populated servers in the NA region.Been UNABLE to connect to data server most of the day!
I have a friend who has been unable to connect since launch!
3rd day in a row of being unable to connect to the game. I would like to know what they plan on doing to fix this issue?
...and NO I dont want to hear we have congested servers and thank you for your patience.. it's been 3 days I think we ALL have been patient enough!
Put Gilgamesh on a different data center or something!
Aether-Gilgamesh
Quit complaining and just sit tight. I'm sorry, but there's nothing SE can do so long as the PLAYERS are ddossing the servers by constantly bombarding them with millions of login attempts every second or less.
Hey it's the tired old reasoning that got reduced to troll reasoning back in WoW. You're getting what you paid for. This is pre-launch. NOT launch. Launch isn't until the 23rd. It's not even SE's fault. It's the playerbase that's causing the issues. I'm sorry, but it is.
Might want to update your certification knowledge. A+ is dead bro.. It was phased out years ago.Computing is not all hardware and software, it's also customer service and public relations, which is something covered in A+ Certification.

What are you talking about? A+ is still around. Two years ago they restructured it so you have to actually retake the test every 2 years or something to renew the certification. They didnt get rid of it. In fact, A+ is a requirement for most other certificates. Its like their base level cert.
I would know. Mine expired yesterday and I've been getting nonstop emails to pay money to retake the exam from comptia themselves.

It would be nice if I could actually create a character on Gilgamesh....
On top of that, this is making the One-Time Password a huge nuisance. Have to enter a password and a unique 6-digit number every time I launch the game is really annoying.
