    Keeping the Flame Alive (POTENTIAL SPOILERS)

    Very long duty, got the the final fight in it and for some reason alphinaud and yujiri decided to never heal me so I ended up kiting him around until I eventually died...only to have to start the the entire thing over. Can we please add a checkpoint or something in case things like this happen? So much footwork to redo just because its balanced entirely around npcs healing you that sometimes decide not to do so =/

    You also need to be geared for it as well, I believe. If you're a DPS, see about changing your rotation around to fit the bill. I was a WHM, and even then it was a little difficult at times due to the amount of HP damage I was taking from time to time(had to Regen+Asylum for some).

    If you're a Tank, take on your aggressive tank stance(Sword Oath or Deliverance) while also using stuff like Bloodlust to keep your HP up.

    If I had to change it, I'd probably nerf the adds a little so that Alphinaud will have time to heal you in the case he's too busy casting Ruin on someone.

    This entire quest was a mess for me. I went in as AST and even in cleric stance it was taking me a good three minutes to kill one mob. I got pretty far in but ran out of time.. WHM and SCH are probably much better suited but even at i120 this was impossible for me to do on AST. I had to switch to SMN just to get through it. Alphi hardly casts anything it's like his AI gets confused and can't decide between ruin or cure. :l
    I didn't have gravity yet, which might have helped, but either way it seemed iffy.

    I went in as a Paladin (level 51, average ilvl 121). Besides the specific perks of the job (in this case, enmity management/positioning), I think there are a few principles you can follow.
    • assess the situation and devise your priorities accordingly. The scenario is fairly linear, but there are a few interruptions (i.e., trash mobs) you need to work with;
    • to be more specific, when you're caged you should deal with the popping mob as quick as you can before you can go back to the gate;
    • use whatever buff you've got on hand to raise the damage ratio (e.g. Raging Strike, DoTs of every sort, Cleric Stance, Astral Fire... a PLD can do the entire distance in Sword stance, using cooldowns whenever necessary), since it buys you valuable time;
    • got Stoneskin? Use it on both yourself and Alphinaud;
    • use that Sprint button;
    • opposite to the gate situation, when you get to the source of the green mist burst it down FIRST. The single add you'll find there shouldn't be able to take either of you down;
    • in the big fight, the sequence should be either Named Lalafell -> Crystal Brave Conjurer -> Named Midlander -> Named Highlander (You Know What I Mean~) or Conjurer -> Lalafell -> Midlander -> Highlander, unless one of them is causing too much trouble to your party. You'll make things easier on both Yugiri and Alphie by dispatching the others first, and then have your entire party converge on the big bad;
    • ignore the Crystal Brave Archer, though, unless you have time or feel in a completionist mood: he's really, really average for his level. Furthermore, Alphinaud can heal, and Yugiri will evade most of the time.
