i would like 'sightseeing' tours. It could be something not meant for travel, but litterally just to enjoy the sights. See the world you're in, take a break from the rush and hustle for fifteen minutes on a leisurely airship cruise around the realm.

I think the era of real-time rides in the open world are over. However I would like to see them add real time rides in a quest line. You would board, ride for awhile, a boss would appear, kill the boss, then wait to arrive at destination. This has been done before, so I imagine they could do it again. It would be amazing to do on a Ishgardian airship or maybe even a Garlean train. Could you imagine fighting an enemy on the top of a moving Garlean train?

ffviii sprang into mind with both of those examplesI think the era of real-time rides in the open world are over. However I would like to see them add real time rides in a quest line. Miss this too, loved seeing airships overhead and knowing I could ride one too (and be there, up there). Really makes the world feel living to have real transportation, imo. Also it doesn't have to be a FFXI amount, that is a common rebuttal but a false and sensational one.. WoW had something like that and it was significantly less wait time than FFXI.

Optional or not, there's still a cost to developing this idea. The team may feel at the moment that the RoI in creating Real Time Airships just doesn't exist. And it's quite easy to see why. Here are just a few problems with this idea.
There is no world map. A Faux-World Map would have to be created to travel over. Systems would have be built and tested to track your whereabouts in real time to deal with jumpers(if possible) or connection issues.
Content may have to be created for it. Because unless there is a reason to visit it, players won't. Which would prove it was just a waste of resources.
Game Design is an evolving art. Systems are being created and discarded as theories change and adjust to an ever changing player base. What worked once may not work again. Attempting to recreate a system or method of play may show that it's time has past. This is an unfortunate result of the aforementioned changing player base.

With the amount of little babies i've seen shouting *OMG I HAVE TO FIND ALL THE AETHERS TO FLY? GEEZ I'LL WALK!* Doubt it.

sounds like alot of work on squares end to add in for the small handful of people who would bother with it

I freaking love boat/airship/public transit in games (and real life!)
Gives you time to take a break and interact with other human beings for a bit.
When games have them I typically idle on them for several round trips just to pass the time waiting for queue or just dicking about in-game when I don't have enough time to really do anything meaningful. '3'

Wasn't the ferry in v1 Realtime? It was nice to have... something on a schedule like that.

I enjoyed waiting for the boat in XI. Sometimes you have to slow down. This is a game and you would think people would play it to enjoy themselves for a few hours, not to rush, rush, rush...omg hurry to endgame so we can complain there's nothing to do. Story? What story? There's a story in FFXIV?
