Keep in mind the question is entirely theoretical. SE never mentioned anything about increasing the requirements to post on the official forums. Please keep the "but they're not going to do that" remarks to yourselves.

Why do I ask? Simple. As an official forum, dedicated to the game's players, only those who actually show progress within the game should be able to post. SE seems to have moved in this direction slightly, by limiting only those who have logged in at least once in the last 30 days to post. But that clearly isn't enough.

The easiest way to achieve this would be to start charging monthly for the game, as I'm sure many people who do not play the game would not be willing to pay for it. However, I'm quite confident that many people who do play wouldn't consider it worth paying for yet either, myself included. So, while it's the easiest option, it's not necessarily the best.

Another way they could do it is to track enemy kills and synthesis/gathering attempts over the course of a week, month, whatever. The game already records your enemy kill count behind the scenes, but I'm not so sure about synthesis and gathering attempts. Regardless, any way to track players' progression would work, as long as it's reasonable (achievements for example wouldn't really work). Only those who show progress within at least one of these would be able to post on forums.

Why am I asking this? Because I think it's rude for people who don't play the game and show no interest in doing so to come here and post about their views, many of which insult and personally attack actual players. I would consider it equally rude if I went to another game's official forum and did the same thing.

The feedback from actual players testing the changes are, in my opinion, more valuable than those who don't play at all. If you don't play but are a fan of the game, there are plenty of fan sites with FFXIV dedicated forums.

Yea, I'm probably going to get completely flamed for asking, but I really don't care. I play the game regularly and I really want to see it succeed. I'm just tired of the the BS trolling we see here, and find it very amusing that the same trolling does not happen in game.
