With GB is on, total potency = 200*1.3 = 260
You are correct if you are looking just at clean shot.

    Split Shot:
    GB - 140 *1.3 = 182
    N GB - 140 + 57.2 = 197.2

    Slug Shot:
    GB - 180 *1.3 = 234
    N GB - 180 + 57.2 = 237.7

More likely then not, IF you were to drop GB for a few seconds to get AAs you will be spamming split shots praying for procs because you have blown through all cool downs on wildfire. It is a very small gain for the added complexity.. But if you are spamming split shots and the occasional slug shot (with lead shot up, GR and Ricochet on cooldown), gauss barrel is still a dps decrease.

You have to add in Increased Action Damage as well.

    With GB of its 240 + 57.2 = 297.2

    GB with IAD2 is a 56% gain.

    200 * 1.56 = 312

So, yes, GB is still a gain over AA now with Clean Shot.

    With Split Shot it's:

    168 + 57.2= 225.2

    Or

    140 * 1.56 = 218.4

However, add ammo in there for the 20 potency bonus and without GB the damage is 249.2. With GB it's 249.6. So, GB scales much better.

So the higher the potency of the attack, the better it scales whereas auto attack remain stagnant. Slug Shot also comes out on top with GB on.

Also need to take into account two things. Gauss round and gauss barrel are required to be used in calculation because they are the auto attack replacements. Second, the more you buff the stronger gauss barrel is. People are not accounting for hot shot in their calculation. 1.56*1.05=1.638. While non gb gets 1.2*1.05=1.26. The difference in multiplier strength went from .36 to .378. This multiplier gets bigger and bigger for every buff you put on and the higher the potency the stronger is is.

Ah yes, forgot about Hot Shot. Add in a DRG for 10% extra piercing damage and GB pulls ahead just due to massive scaling.

    Because math is fun

    Split
    GB 140.00 * 1.20 * 1.05 * 1.30 = 229.32
    NGB 140.00 * 1.20 * 1.05 + 88.00 = 264.40

    Slug
    GB 180.00 * 1.20 * 1.05 * 1.30 = 294.84
    NGB 180.00 * 1.20 * 1.05 + 88.00 = 314.80

    Clean
    GB 200.00 * 1.20 * 1.05 * 1.30 = 327.60
    NGB 200.00 * 1.20 * 1.05 + 88.00 = 340.00

Granted, that is dependent on the fact that auto attack potency is calculated as weapon delay/3.00 * 100. In the machinist case, 2.64/3.00*100 = 88.00. Given the calculations (short of a stupid mistake) it seems stance dancing could be a thing.

Thought process being, only stance dance if the following are true:

Is lead shot dot up? Yes
Is gauss round on cooldown? Yes
    Is ricochet on cooldown? Yes

Don't forget, Gauss Round adds about 38.92 potency every 2.64 seconds and once you're in GB, you're stuck in it for 15 seconds. So you'd only have 5 seconds of non-GB time every 20 seconds, which may net you 2 auto-attacks, if that.

Well, the idea of stance dancing is to get the benefit of both. You would never want to miss a gauss round to get AA. But with the insta casting nature of gauss barrel, it COULD work. I like the idea of stance dancing (not only because it sounds cool) but it may not matter over the course of an entire fight. Its not unreasonable to think that you could have used lead shot, ricochet, and gauss round and have 20 seconds to kill before your next gauss round.. You would "theoretically" have higher dps in that 20 seconds if you stance danced. Most likely the complexity would end up hurting your dps in the long run if you mess up during the rotation.

So, basically, we could stance dance right after the opener? Using Wild Fire as a "chronometer" to put GB on again?
