So I paid the transfer fee and yoinked my Legacy Lala over to Lamia where my 2.0 main lived when the population problems really got serious.

Free transfers off the data center are the only solution. There are 1.0 players who feel like they shouldn't have to move, especially if it costs money - it's not their fault their old server got invaded by RPers. There are individuals who don't want to move unless their entire FC movies.

Make a new server on Primal or re-designate the lowest population server existing as the official RP server. Offer free transfers off Balmung and Gilgamesh to select servers (Lamia is also high population and doesn't need anyone transferring over en masse.)
I'm sorry but I have to correct you there about the rpers. We didn't 'invade'. Back in 1.0 we were on a different server that was merged with Balmung. So the Legacy RPers stayed with Balmung. New players who wanted to roleplay and didn't care about Legacy went to Balmung as well. Others chose Gilgamesh. All because Yoshida has repeatedly refused to name an official rp server. Otherwise we'd all be there.

And free server transfers would never work unless they lifted that stupid money cap...a lot of people on Balmung have tens of millions of gil and they WON'T leave that behind willingly.

My suggestion is lift the cap temporarily for just the free transfers for ONLY the over congested servers. That way the people who would love to leave would no longer have a reason to stay.
