They never should have put Gilgamesh and Balmung together in the first place. They are both huge. I like how in the notice it says they 'happen' to be on the same data server....like it was an accident or they stumbled in there all by themselves. XD

At this point they've created a self-replicating crisis. 'Oh no, so much congestion is causing these problems - nothing we can do!' *Do nothing. Players attempt to log in, crash out, attempt to log in again, recycle ad nauseum as more players crash or find time to try to log in & the log-in attempts stack up* 'See, so much congestion, oh no!'
I'd definitely move to another server, but I have so much less to lose than most of you - no worries about the Gil cap or the housing. I'm honestly only on Balmung because that's where my characters from the original launch wound up. But after paying for the sub, for the expansion, plus whatever I paid for the original game, I'm not so inclined to give them MORE money to move my characters to another server. They already have some of my money, and some of a lot of you all, so either improve the infrastructure to ease the situation, or incentivize the server transfers. Heck, it'd be great if they listed servers with populations so you have a rough idea what you're going into.
Offer us free transfers, maybe XP/Gill earning boosts and lock down the max population servers (except for alts). Stifles growth, sure, but they do NOT need to grow any more!

Uh - Gilgamesh was a new server created at the start of 2.0, they had no idea it'd be the chosen server of Reddit.
Just split up the Aether data center, no need to hack apart a server. Balmung goes to one Gilgamesh goes to another, and just round robin the servers based population until you've got an equal split in two new data centers.
I know. But unless I'm mistaken (it was a while ago) the data center split did not occur until later on in 2.1. About a year ago? Along with helping with queues for things and lag it was meant to help with lobby issues which was still a problem. It was at this point that large population servers should have been separated.
The servers are overpopulated even if they weren't destroying the datacenter lobby.
Never fear! SE's engineers are hard ta work at resolving the issue!

Balmung Had over 1k more characters then the next server using lodestone search. Yes Second is Japanese server and then third was Gilgamesh i believe. But a thousand. I am not sure how that works for Data center. But I am sure someone could add up the numbers. Logged into aegis for curiosity sake. There was no que when Balmung was at 800.
The numbers don't add up. But realisticly at this point this won't be fixed till its to late. They will probably look into pre 4.0. And a curious note what does staff have to do with hardware not handling load. If there is to much for the hardware it's to much.
