Retainer level

Is there a requirement to fullfill before retainers can level again after they hit 50?
Or did SE just not raise retainer max lvl to 60?
I'm confused because before the patch, the forum was full of people saying "don't forget to stock up on retainer coins, because they will be able to level again, too".
Well, whenever one of mine returns and brings me another handful of mud or a stinky dead fish he picked up on his way home from a free vacation, I get the message that he couldn't get the experience because his level can't rise right now.

Remember, you're retainer cannot level a class higher than you have leveled that class.

So, if you're still at 50, then they are stuck at 50, too.

If its like it is from 1-50 our retainers won't start leveling until that class is 56. Remember, there's a 5 level cap on what your retainer can be compared to what you are until you hit the level cap.

I never knew that since all my classes were 50 already when they introduced retainers, so thanks

yeah they stay 5 levels below you til ur cap level then the retainers can max out :3

Yeah I'm in the same boat. Switched from tank to bard. Only reason I know is cause of an alt who I'm still leveling hand/land.

This got changed in 3.0 - they can now be same level as you even if you are below 50 - noticed when some of my alts retainers maxed at the 5 below suddenly started gaining xp again even though I hadn't leveled the classes they were based on any more - Might be a bug - but I like it!

Doesn't help though if you're maining one of the new jobs.

I'll have to get my SCH to 60 for the sole purpose of my retainer. :/

When I was lvl 52, my max retainer lvl was 52 too, and he gained exp while being lvl 50. So I guess is does not work the same as it did before 50.

Dang I forgot how retainer leveling worked. Leveling my dragoon main now but my retainers are BLM and BRD. Guess it's going to be a while before they get leveled but now i know what jobs i need to level next.
