yea, it's strange that the other cities have 2 or 3 exits but Ishgard only has the 1. and it's not like there isn't a zone line to Western Highlands. at the very least that should open once you unlock flight there.
Think of it like this, prior to your memorizing locations, would you have been able to determine which aetheryte name is likely to be used just by looking at a map? Minus the identified aetherytes in the image, which I got from an old thread by ShinSoku. Link
The two right-most aetherytes are quite the equal distance from each other to The Forgotten Knight inn. Not exactly something you'd be able to identify with 100% certainty initially. Unlike The Brume aetheryte, The Forgotten Knight aetheryte has many other potential names it could have gone under otherwise.
Even for the other map, The Last Vigil could easily be The Architects or some generic name like Manor Residence, similar to The Tribunal. It's really not much of a matter of game breaking proportions, as it's just a minor inconvenience. What they're apparently working on, with adding the names to the map icons, is exactly what they should have always done. If that were done to begin with, they might not have had to change the starting towns teleport point names.

I was just about to post a Quality of life change that when you mouse over it would give you the name. Great to hear something is in the works!
I'll never understand why you can't mouse over the aetheryte shards on the map and have the name of them come up.
That would have solved *everything*.
I'm getting used to the names so it's not too big of a deal, however it would be nice if we could teleport to an aethernet shard by clicking on it on the map like we already do with the Aetherytes in various zones. But again, not a huge deal. Like the person above me said, just having the name show up when moused over would be enough for me.
I really wish that it opened a map when you right click on the shard, and then like the aetherytes on our regular maps, you could click the shard/aetheryte that you want to port to. This goes for the chocobo porter as well.
This is a standard feature in modern MMOs for fast travel, because it makes more sense than a list of names that we may or may not be familiar with.
One of those things (since this is not the first such occurrence) that make me go bonkers, like, really, had nobody in the dev team ever noticed this and thought of fixing it? @.@
And yeah, in ARR beta, the city aetherytes were named in a mixed-up fashion, some with the "fantasy" name (excuse the pun) of the place, some with a direct descriptive one - for launch, everything got the descriptive name in those lists. Now in Ishgard it's back to confusion time again...? Please be more consistent.
I could've sworn back in late 1.xx or 2.0 alpha/beta they were going to implement a map on hover function on the aethernet list. Whatever happened to that..?
Found the original source in Reinheart's old translation tread from 1.xx, but it's not letting me quote it because it's archived (it's post #5168 if you want to go hunting yourself) :

It's hard to memorize the camps name and area sometimes so I end up checking the map time to time to make sure I don't teleport to the wrong location. I think it would be useful if you can teleport directly from the map so please look into it if possible.
In ARR version we are planning to make it where when using standard teleport and those teleport devices in town (the aetheryte devices GC placed to travel within town faster.) it will display the map and then choosing the destination from there.
EDIT: Fixed up a bit.

It's especially bad when you consider how rarely you will travel from Ishgard to Central Highlands, yet you will travel from Ishgard to the other two zones a hundred times while questing in 3.0.
Lore wise, however, they have never allowed you to use a city aetherite to cross a great distance. Gridania to East Shroud requires a boat ride, as does Limsa to East La Noscea. Since Sea of Clouds and Western Coethas both require flying in lore, I imagine that was why they didn't let you teleport there via aethernet.
It would have been nice if you could unlock it later, though, like how you gain access to the "wolf gate" in gridania after a certain level.
