While I think those adjustments would help, I feel that keeping it solely red would make it still get lost in many of the other DRK ability VFX, particularly Salted Earth which has a swirly red cloud/bubble effect to it. If I was redesigning it, I personally would go with a black and purple combination for the effect.

Agreed. I don't feel that getting rid of the effect is the proper solution. Making it so that it obeys filter settings like other VFX as well as improving it visually so that it looks more pleasing while providing better visual feedback for whether it is on or not is, imo, the goal that should be strived for.
personally i think it would be nice to have a more permanent version of this visual
but without the giant glowing sword blades popping out of the ground... or the bubble
edit: heck i would even go with just the effect on the weapon because at least then it would definitely be noticeable in your salted earth bubble...
Honestly I think my biggest issue with Darkside Aura is how much area it covers, if it were just minimized in are coverage I think I'd have less issue.
