They are a tank and as such, their "main" stat will be VIT.
There is the STR route that many endgame tanks like to transition to once their gear is up to snuff.
The value of PIE to a DRK is still untested, it may be excellent and we could see full PIE builds or it could be worthless where a proper rotation makes the extra mp gained moot.
I personally will be going full VIT until I can see more data on the STR vs. PIE benefits.
what do their weapons have on them? pie is really just MP regen... if i'm not mistaken. WARs and PLDs do a combo VIT/STR or one or the other. not sure how different DRK would be on this...
What I'm hearing from people playing DRK at the moment is that Darkside is very very easy to keep up with no bonus piety, just using the few mana regen skills the class has. It seems it's only more complicated to keep up once you get Dark Arts.
It definitely seems like pure VIT is the way to go for DRK for progression tanking like all tanks. Once you get enough Vit to feel comfortable tanking though I guess we'll need more complicated theorycraft to work out whether flat STR or more PIE for greater Dark Arts use will equate to higher damage/threat. My gut feeling has me thinking that Dark Knights will be able to tank just fine with a base level Piety and STR/VIT will be their main stats, similar to how paladins and bards get by just fine without any... but Yoshi did mention needing PIE at some point in a live letter so I guess we'll see.
Dark arts being used consistently does make it a challenge but it's not overly hard, and I still don't have the 60 skill which is also supposed to be an mp recovery skill.
Currently on trash I try to avoid using dark arts and stick to blood price+unleash spam until it wears off, then transition into combos, usually syphon>souleater because my agro is sufficient at that point and every little bit helps the healer, also it's a whole 10 less potency so your damage doesn't really suffer.
On bosses I enmity combo twice using dark arts, pop it immediately before I start the combo and it drops at end, but blood price right after popping the first dark arts. Then switch between enmity and mp regen combos, if boss is casting anything delirium, if not just souleater. Enmity is usually enough at that point that I use dark arts exclusively for the souleater boost, have crit for 1k+ so the heal is pretty decent with it.
Edit: forgot dark arts>dark passenger, wasn't really using it in pre-50 dungeons because it felt like a waste of 40% of my mp for 3 mob pulls but in the high roulette its awesome mitigation+damage on big pulls

VIT first then STR once you feel like you have enough HP. No need for PIE tbh. Blood price+unleashed is great for group pulls!
