    Suggestion - FFXIV new dye specular issue.

    The Dye system of FFXIV is amazing.
    In an MMO, everyone eventually ends up with the same armor.
    And of course you don't want to be the same as everyone else, so you can dye and glamour your armor to make a set that you like.

    The dye system even improved late in ARR and especially in HW.
    Where the specular map is applied on top of the dyed armor.
    What is a specular map? It's a texture that allows the object to glow or shine when struck with a light source.

    To show you what the difference is, and at the same time show the issue I want to talk about, here is an example:
    Same dye, but helmet does not shine


    The issue being, that there is no way to mix ARR armor with HW armor.
    Comparing the two now, is like the old ARR dyed armor looks like some one used cheap latex paint to paint their car.

    What I am getting at:
    I love the new specular map on dyed armor! But please apply them to the old armor too!


    Problems/Solutions
    P: Some players might like the old painted armor.
    S1: Release all dyes in a metalic form. (that's a lot of dyes tho)
    S2: Allow the option to apply the dye in the current matte form, or the HW styled metallic form.

    That is because that armor has a different shader then HW armor. To get the same effect of the shaders you need silver dye or the other metal dyes.

    Unfortunately you'd run into issues with people who like the enameled look on armor and wish the new armor had a flat color look. It's kind of unfortunate but it seems they've moved on from modifying 1.0 gear (minus Darklight anyhow)

    Ideally they'd give us 3 variations of each model - one that dyes metallic, one that dyes matte enamel, and one that dyes glossy enamel (e.g. PLD AF myth variation or the Heaven's Ward uniform)

    Thankfully it's not the shader that handels this.
    It's actually the specular map that adds the gloss.
    The dyed old armor does have a faint invironmental shine, that is the shader.

    Hmhmm, of course some people like that painted look. Asking for a second setting on all dyes might be too much I guess.. but I just wish we are able to use old with new armor
