I like that they use quotes, references and word play from loads of other things.

One of the Alexander quest is called "A Song of Steel and Steam". Aslo another one is "Cold is comming" or "Freeze is coming" or something like that.
FFXIV is plagued of references on FATE and Quest names - Like Metal Gear FATEs in Hinterlands. It is not a surprise.
Trial by combat is not a GoT thing. On Middle Ages was a common practice.
Hi, non-GOT fan here, some of the references are fun but i'd like to point out that these references do not affect the gameplay and that the GOT story is the most common fantasy story you can find and is only hyped because of an HBO show.
If you want to believe that SE said " Ah fuck it copy that GoT story and stick some Final Fantasy-esque names on it and nobody will notice" to make Heavensward i'd like you to come up with an original narrative that must be in all manners original and not a single story element should be able to be found in another fantasy setting.
the Loc team is responsible for most of the references and shout outs in the ENG version. Are there more references to GOT than to anything else? Probably so but that's only because GoT is a thing now that people talk about.
When the next big thing comes around the loc team will make tons of references to that.
Koji is notorious for his trope and reference usage and GoT is just DRIPPING with material to use. Plus, it's a well loved series.
What exactly is the problem? Does this offend you somehow?

I personally don't see a problem, I like when references are made with shows I've seen before xD

You pull out a few obscure references and call it overload. There is nothing wrong with this at all. You are just incredibly nit picky and likely for no reason other than to nit pick. Also, trial by combat did NOT originate with game of thrones.....
I think if people look really hard for a similarity with something, they'll eventually proclaim it as the core truth.
Anyway, Sean Bean hasn't died in FFXIV so there's no connection at all.
Nah, that's another Final Fantasy..
#kingsglaive
And without a doubt, there will be some people who will call that a rip-off of GoT too,
because omg the king/family leader/father figure died, THAT MUST BE COPIED FROM GoT BECAUSE NO OTHER BOOK/TV SHOW EVER DID THAT...![]()
Waiting for the Mother of All dragons to make an appearance lol
If FFXIV is guilty of something for having popular culture references in its story and quests then I think you'll find the entire media industry is guilty of it.Yeah, because the fact that's it's been used more than once in the past 2,000 years of human evolution somehow negates the overwhelming abundance of GoT references throughout FFXIV. Have you even played Heavensward?
Aside from trial by combat, "in the eyes of gods and men", and the COUNTLESS quests/references to GoT, please tell me how you'd like to justify the use of "little birds" by Lolorito in the main questline after rescuing Rabhaun. It's a literal parallel to GoT.
A huge chunk of Heavensward is a direct ripoff of GoT, whether you want to admit it or not.
Sorry for the necro, but come on... how has no one called out this blatant copying and borderline plagiarsm?
You ask how no one has called them out. Well I ask you how have you not called out every book/film/game you've ever enjoyed? I guarantee you every one of them contains a reference to another work somewhere. Why are you only picking up on it now?
