    We should probably talk about slot costs, stats and the GSers burden

    Premise 1: Goldsmithing is a notorious problem craft. High costs. Ridiculous payouts. We probably all started gs with the realization that it's going to be brutal, expensive, and painful but that in the end we'd be the most well off players on the server if we made it. We were okay with the gs reputation of eating its own young.

    Seems that SE is not ok with that. Slot costs severely restrict demand for GS items, keeping them cheap. Our revenue is hampered, as one cheap ring takes the same sales floor room as an expensive plate armor. Material overload keeps supply very high. Stats on hq accessories do not carry over to why people equip that piece, limiting value of most of our hq markets. The weapons we make are subspecialty pieces: one kind of Mage using one kind of element.

    Goldsmithing to me is more of a hobby. I know I can make money with it, but we have so many sandbags on right now I feel like Harrison Burgeon.

    Surprised to not have heard comments on any of these gs-specific issues yet.

    I have not had any problems. I am only a lvl 23 GS but during the last 3 lvls i just made brass rings. I got a lot of sp and sold them to npcs for 1300 gil. I made well over 200k gil total and all the materials except the crystals were free from my miner. I am sry if selling stuff in the markets is hard but it seems to me that if you are not lvl 40 or higher for your crafter then it is hard to sell a lot of stuff. Rely on npcs and your life will get a lot better.

    Nono, this isn't about npc prices. I do that too to recapture gil for sp. I'm talking about making a living in Goldsmithing not just making it ok to grind through. From 45-50 you will spend the material equivalent of two tricorns a level. You darn well better get back 3k a ring from npc!

    Silver franciscas are great skillup 40+, but no one wants them. I can't even give them away for free, and the NPC will purchase them at ~1900g per stack. Compare this to the cost of scale glue needed to do this synth. Also compare the cost of gold sand to the above rings, and remember that people will generally try to get repairs for less than the worth of a single electrum nugget. Finally, red coral arrowheads are a good synth but red coral is very rare and expensive.

    I fear we will not turn out rich as the goldsmiths of Vana'diel did, due to the AP limitations.

    This is a big time issue.... not having a difference between HQ/NQ I think is where the problem truely is...

    If the HQ stat raised the effect of the stat (Str, Vit etc..) then having a high ranked GS would be awesome. I actually don't even think we'd be having this discussion....

    However- with the current system, our end game products don't really have a lot of demand.... I too am trying to give the rings I'm grinding on away to people.. and no one will take them : (

    It seems as though they are ok with gs being more difficult than other crafts. First gen goldsmithers enjoyed nearly free rides to 50 on silver needles and that got nerfed hard. I use electrum myself. Some use coral and some use fransiscas but they are all several degrees more painful than armorer or blacksmith.

    They may need to wait until the battle system and stats are overhauled like cooking, but itd be nice to know they acknowledge a problem.

    Quick question: what is good for 37-40? I'm currently trying to find cheap gemstones/raw gems and making rings.... I know Silver Needles are 'cheap' but they take forever.... also I've used up all my silver ingots for making chakrams and those are selling for 10k a pop....

    I've made some white coral arrowheads, but those are also hard to come by and pretty expensive

    As painful as it is, I did silver rings to 42 because your other options are five times more expensive or rare.

    well it just doesnt make sense that you cant wear earrings because you have a necklace on, or have too many rings on =p Slot cost is just dumb

    I am currently mid 46 gsm and yes its a brutal labor of love. Things that i've been grinding on are silver magnifiers ( yes i know crazy right?), these tend to be cheapest synths for the sp return i can do. Electrum rings aren't bad about half the sp per synth but gold sand is redic on my server 20-30k per, while limestones i can pick up pretty cheap or free from ls peeps.
    Red coral is a good synth too (arrowheads at 2x corals or breastpins 1x coral). Corals just a pain to farm, as slugs that drop these take awhile to kill even at r50.
