I'm sorry I had to be nosey and look at your profile, and judging from the gear you have I'm going to assume that you haven't had much coils (end game) experience. I think that alone might be clouding your judgement on Scholar, because all of the abilities we recieved are going to be pretty amazing for said content. I agree that none of the stuff we got sounds exciting for progression and solo stuff, but we have been equipped so well for raids that I think you should at least be excited for the potential. If you are someone who will never raid though, then I could understand why the changes were underwhelming for you.

As for me, I'm VERY excited for it. However, the one complaint I have after looking at all the skills, is why is AST's only healing buff actually a horrid nerf? I'm talking about Lightspeed. It reduces your heals by 25%. WHM has Divine Seal and Presence of Mind, SCH has Fey Illumination and Dissapation and we get something that reduces our healing power?

Positives: benefits of whm nerfs to protect and stoneskin, aoe esuna (although on a 90s cd), indomitability, deployment tactics
Negatives: lost uniqueness of shields, lustrate mechanical effectiveness nerf, dissipation which sounds superiorly underwhelming, an attack spell that probably costs way too much mana to be useful outside of 'beat the enrage timer', emergency tactics which is also probably useless outside of a two sch party.
Possible negatives: We'll have to see how the 3% haste compares to the old spell/skill speed buffs.

Outside of indomitability and deployment tactics I'm really not seeing what you find so.... let's say whelming... about it.

White mage I can understand but scholars are probably going to be in an even better position then astrologian. If buffs are randomized and powering up the next card causes you to lose your in storage card and a 60 second cooldown it will make timing astrologian buffs a bit of a headache. Randomness is not a good thing when it comes to whether or not you want a scholar that can provide utility on demand when almost all encounters have periods of time you want on demand abilities. Will have to see how it works but from what I am seeing at first astrologian might be a watered down hybrid of white mage and scholar with random effects that does not even provide bonus dps that makes it worthwhile over the damage abilities of a white mage and scholar.

I am not sure how much support dps an astrologian can give though.

On moves like Protect, Stoneskin, and Ascend (raise), which aren't affected by your healing potency, a faster cast time could be pretty beneficial. I do admit though, for the sheer number of instant-cast abilities that Astrologian seems to have, that the effect of Lightspeed seems pretty underwhelming in the current meta.

On-topic, I'm pretty excited about it, though since I'm re-rolling as an Au Ra Astrologian I do feel a bit of shame at being a crowd follower and doing what everyone else seems to be doing. >__>

I would not be. There is a reason Astrologian is going to be the most played job in 3.0. It has been given some of the best attention and the effects are amongst the best. Itleast everyone going astrologian will feel like being a bard and running into a group of clones feels for the last year and half ;p. Reddit poll had astrologian i think at near 50% of the job that people will check out with only 20% for machinist. I would have thought dark knight would have been the one everyone would been wanting to play.
