First I'd like to state my position on the abolishing of physical levels, I'm all for it. Primary reason being it either favors veteran players too much or the stats are negligible (read: balance)

A system whereby players can voluntarily allocate attribute points to each class will be implemented in patch 1.20 or later, along with class balance adjustments.
This is a very vague statement and I'd like some more information on it. I'm going to provide some foundation for what I think a good system would be.

Thought 1:

After the physical levels are abolished and the stats are more meaningful the Guild Mark traits that reduce stat X to increase stat Y will intrigue players. It will provide incentive for players to play more jobs to make their main job stronger. From a managerial view its a system already in place that should require little, if any, modifying to be a cornerstone of customization.

Thought 2:

Introduce a merit system, add a touch of innovation. Instead of mirroring FFXI, allow merits to be earned as soon as R25 (per class basis). This begs the question why so soon, it adds a level of customization to your character before you've hit max rank.

Elaborating a bit on thought 2, at R25 as a gladiator(any class) you can do a quest to unlock the merit system for that Job (This also allows for a segue to explain the merit system and how to use it.) Limit the unlockable merit stats/abilities by rank. R25 Glad can unlock a merit to increase enmity on Light Stab, another example R25 Glad can unlock a damage return with high enmity.

Overall message:
  • Customization with choices, not the illusion of choice.
  • Reward the effort put forth by the players without making new players rendered null.
  • Balance.
