New Spell Speed and it's importance to SMNs

So the patch notes said that Spell Speed is now gonna effect Damage/Heal over time spells/skills. What does this mean for SMN, who's main source of damage is DoT?
I'm working on my Animus, and if Spell Speed is gonna play a more important role in 3.0, should I start upping that, or stick with jamming as much Determination as possible?

I think it's safe to assume the overall effect on damage and healing will be greater than Det's contribution, with the balance tradeoff that it only affects DoTs/HoTs. If it was less than Det, there would be no point in stacking it since Det also affects burst damage/heal skills. Because SMN is DoT-heavy, overall Spell Speed might be worth investing in more than Det, with a secondary focus on Crit. A job that does a bit of both (half burst half DoT, like BRD) will have to trial and error after the patch to see what works best to maximize DPS.

That's kinda what I was thinking, but I'm also not entirely sure how the new SMN skills are going to work either, cause at the moment out of SMN's out of the current 8 damage dealing spells (excluding Tri-Disaster/Bind and Energy Drain, since people rarely if ever use those) only 3 of those are burst damages, so without numbers yet it would seem that SS would be preferable to Det for a DoT class.
At the moment I'm putting +22 Accuracy and +22 Crit rate into my Animus for sure, then the guide I was following said to put +31 into Det, but with Spell Speed being changed, maybe I should change that to SS, or at least some of it.

Yes they did, but for the most part I've never really noticed DoTs don't crit damage, but it could just be that I'm not watching close enough. While the pets need less acc to hit, I still need it though, so still gonna put that in.

I think once it comes out, I'm just gonna get a couple low level ACN books and play around with the DoTs and some Det and SpellSpeed materia to test, but hopefully one of the people who does wikis or guides will find this out in more detail and faster than me.

DoTs most definitely crit. One of Bard's most important mechanics relies on DoT critting to cause procs.

DoTs can crit. There simply is no callout for it the way there is for a direct damage attack.

Some classes (Bard, BLM, not sure if any others) have effects that come about on a DoT crit tick.

Stacking Determination on Summoner over the other two is not good to begin with. You'd want SS and Crit more. More critical = more opportunities your pet has to buff your SS by 20%, and if SS is big then the extra 20% boost is will be HUGE. Before HW this meant you could apply your DoTs more flexibly and fluently, cast ruin an extra time or two making up for all that little damage det gives, and after HW this means your DoTs will pop quicker meaning more DPS.

Additionally the potency of the DET stat is so low that, 150 DET gives like 10 to 11 points of damage at 100 potency (I tested this). This is a huge thing for classes who use primarily high potency instant damage like Dragoons and Warriors. It's terrible for Summoners because with the exception of fester(300 max) and energy drain(150), all of their attacks are below 100 and their three primary DoT adds up to only 95 per pop.

Just like before Heavensward, you're better off aiming for speed.
