    The Tavern

A central point in the XIV rendered video, a place for adventurers to mingle with the crafters, and an all-around sound idea that was lost in the annals of history.

Does anyone remember back in the early SWG days when they had a cantina that actually had a use? Basically, you went out into the battlefield until your mind melted from the stress. Then you came to a cantina to get it healed (the only way it could be healed, mind you - ) was to have a nice drink and watch some dancing girls or listen to a musician.

It provided the perfect atmosphere to converse and meet people, a facet that many MMOs, okay all, lack now.

Bottom line, I believe a social element should have some consideration in XIV. Have characters get tired after a long time. Or, if you don't want to force them, have them stop in to receive buffs. Introduce the bard and dancer classes, and have that be their main breadwinner (working there, as in, their buff skills won't work outside of it.)

Have drinks that are only available in the tavern, to force people to go there to receive the unique buffs, or whatever.

Yes, I'm a big sissy that wants to talk to people, and I could just do it randomly in the streets. However, a justified place in the game - one with an actual purpose - would be just wonderful. I imagine a raid group stopping in for an hour long buff or so before going on a raid. I think it would be fun ... there goes the f word again.

Just a thought. I'll never understand why devs don't look more at the innovative ideas that old SWG game had. Yes it died, but in the beginning, there were some really good ideas flying around.

I think people are just too lazy these days. It's a shame.

I loved SWG, and it would be awesome to see one of the best parts of it make an appearance in Eorzea (in a Final Fantasy fashion, of course).

I'd love to actually SIT in a chair and DRINK and have TABLE AND ENVIRONMENT INTERACTIONS in the game, like OUT OF ALL THE MMOS I'VE PLAYED, THERE ARE NO ENVIRONMENT INTERACTIONS WHATSOEVER. I guess that's too hard or tedious to implement these days..

Heh. I suppose that's true. We'd need to be able to sit in a chair, first.

And, I'm fairly certain the idea of 20 new dancing animations that isn't skipping back and forth makes the devs want to cry and hide under a desk.

They have sitting areas in the new Settlements but not many people head there atm. They are adding repair and merchant NPCs and quests there so they might serve as social areas.

I would like to see a MMO where Inns are important hubs where you can meet up with people, stay in player housing, or recover your health by resting (maybe in some sort of Chrono Trigger-esque revitalization chamber, to explain away the lack of a passage of time). Player housing could be instanced ("just head up the stairs to your right") and there could be a common area with a fountain for players to sit around or wait for your other party members before heading out.

Yes but it needs to have a purpose. If there is nothing to gain in the form of buffs or otherwise, nobody will bother to go there. That is the key.

I always thought there needed to be more interaction in the adventures guild. You can sit in chairs/benches but only some. I'm liking this thread for more immersion!~

Thanks. Here's the basic process as I see it:

Players enter "Tavern" (Personally, I believe that a separate building would be good, because the adv. guild is crammed with AFK people as it is.)
Players wait in tavern while buff builds a timer (the longer you're there, the longer it lasts, up to 1.5 hours or so)
Players can purchase drinks and food items that provide long-term buffs, but can only be drank in the tavern. (Fruit juices, of course!)

These buffs could be anything from HP/MP regeneration, to SP, to stats.

Later, implement the bard and dancer classes, masters of which can provide even better buffs. Allow both to combine into light and full parties and perform together to provide even better buffs.

I'm sure you could implement battle fatigue and have players come in to get rid of it, but I'm sure that would cause a crapstorm, so I'll just leave it at this.
