I'm sorry if I somehow made it sound like I took offense to what you said, I didn't. ^^

They could have changed it where one Materia melding puts it to +3 instead of +1...?
Eh, that wouldn't work either...
I dunno, this part has always bothered me. It's pretty much a "level up your crafting classes or never get your Zeta!" type of thing to me...

Probably because at this point, the zodiacs are pretty much irrelevant. Being honest, they didn't have much relevancy even in their prime, being only 5 levels higher poetics weapons and otherwise equal to Dreadwyrm. It's a nice glamour, but that's honestly the only reason anyone still cares about them.
Still, at least they're making alexandrite more commonplace which was annoying as hell. It also means people who have already passed that stage can redo the stats on their zodiac far easier. It's a step in the right direction, even if it doesn't address the expense of the materia you need to meld.

The problem with the novus step isn't the alexandrite. It's the materia. Mainly for those that spiritbind their own to avoid paying the stupidly high prices of tier 4 materia. The problem with materia is that there is only one way in the game to get it. And that's by doing hours worth of Spiritbinding only to have RNG screw you straight up the butt, and give you elemental resist crap that has no place in the game considering how useless it is against mobs. And no they don't need to make elemental resist materia more usefull they just need to remove it from the game.
They said they were nerfing the quests for glamor anyway since untill 3.1 we will probably be using primal weapons or Law / Esoteric weapons / Alexander weapons, so not allowing at least some other way to get materia seems really short sighted on SE's part.
Grade I and II materia are always pretty cheap, so just meld some of that onto the weapon. No point in going for BiS if all you're going to do with it is glamor.

Clearly, the best Final Fantasy character is Locke Cole.
Glamour is TRUE ENDGAME

What if the boost you get for having a zeta allows you to carry over the stats instead of getting something like... Acc / SS or Acc / Piety? Carrying over useless stats would be... useless.

It'll be cheaper anyways. Unlike now when IV is the top, in 3.0 we're probably gonna be producing mostly IVs at level 60. Since the new relic doesn't start until 3.1, materia prices for IVs will propbably take a nose dive in 3.0.

― Ernest Hemingway

In the high unlikelihood of that happening, you can always respec the stats on it then. Besides, depending how the stat changes roll out it's possible that what's BiS now will not be BiS anyway. Determination is getting worse and crit is getting better, skill/spellspeed's getting better, etc.
Besides, I imagine the bonus is going to be something along the lines of "Oh, you already got a Zeta weapon, I guess I won't need you to go out and kill [chimaera equivalent monster] to prove yourself."
If someone wins an argument, they have learned nothing.
FOR DOCKHAND!
With Grade VI incoming, I think the values of BOTH grade II and III will go up but grade IV and V will go down a bit.
But I can get a lot of Alex at the end of a day, and that will make more time for me to spiritbond instead.
If I buy all of my materias from the MB, I'd think my gil would be negative by now.
I'm no crafter or gatherer, so tank roulettes are the only means of me getting money, other than spiritbonding.
