My FC has a mansion too. We have an FC chest that we store items in for purposes just like the ones you're talking about; stuff that's meant to be used for the FC goes in our FC chest, crafting materials included.

I felt the same way in 1.0 when i refused to craft. "lol you guys just cant manage inventory space".
