"free to play games" don't make you subscribe to anything, that's why it's "free to play". The equivalent to subscribing for P2P would be microtransactions (buying) for F2P.

I agree with the suggestion to actually buy the retainer instead of renting it, if SE insists on having the players pay for extra retainers.
