Returning player, lvl 30...should I wait for story double xp?

I am buying the expansion and diving back into this game now that I can play more. My question is should I save my story quest for when double xp goes live? Or just continue now?

Either or. I don't see any particular reason to do either over the other that isn't balanced out by other factors.

If you do them now and continue leveling, you'll take longer in play time than you otherwise would but will hit the expansion content sooner.

If you don't do them now and are playing FFXIV anyway, then you can level other classes or something similar. You'll end up with less play time to reach the expansion content but have to wait longer, too.

I'll be honest with you, going from level 30 to 2.55 content takes a bit of time, but it is doable if you have some free time on your hands. Although after the patch hits, you'll have much less people doing the story quests than now, so expect longer queues for story related stuff after patch hits.

Not quite true. For one, players doing dungeons for the first time will have priority queueing. Second, everyone has levelling to do - either in new content or old content. Low Level Roulette is going to see an absolutely massive surge in active players, of all roles.

If you want to hold off a couple days, feel free! Take the opportunity to level some off-classes and try out other things, and then reap the benefits when all the new benefits for "new" players kick in!

Honestly... the big slow down is at level 40 or so. If you live in the US and play during evenings... you have, what, 2 days left before we start on the 24 hour maintenance? May as well work on it a bit right now, IMO.

Why hold off on the fun of playing for a few exp? Leveling is anything but hard in this game. Don't put the grind before the fun, before you even come back.
