Having Trouble Staying at 30 FPS

I'm having trouble sticking at or above 30 FPS. I have a Lenovo Y500 that has 4 i7 cores @ 2.4 GHz, two Nvidia GeForce GT 750M graphics cards, 16 GB RAM. This should be more than enough to run the game at only medium settings at 30 FPS, am I wrong? What can I do to make my game run better at medium settings? This is making me pretty frustrated

The power management might be in an aggressive power saving mode. Are you playing it from AC or from battery?

I'm not too sure what you're asking. Do you mean is my laptop plugged in or working from battery? If that's the case, I always play plugged in.

Ok. Can you check inside the game which video card it's using? It might be defaulting to the Intel HD Graphics since that's the "primary" graphics adapter in laptops.

Are you running with SLI Enabled and with the game in full screen mode?

I have SLI enabled (in the Nvidia control panel the SLI rendering setting is set to force alternate frame rendering 2. In the Configure SLI, Surround, PhyX menu, in the SLI configuration submenu I have Maximize 3D performance checked and in the PhysX settings submenu I have it auto select), however when I look at the SLI indicator the bar is small so it doesn't seem to help much. I also play in windowed mode using a resolution of 1800 x 1000.

See if using full screen changes. As I mentioned, the way laptops are designed with switchable graphics, what they do is pipe the video buffer from the dedicated GPU part to the iGPU part. The SLI configuration should be capable of 60fps easy. Like as a point of reference, my desktop, the nVidia card is Monitor 1, while the iGPU is monitor 2. If I run windowed, and drag the window so it overlaps both monitors or persists on just one or the other, it's still using the nVidia GPU for rendering. It does however lose a few frames if entirely on the iGPU's monitor owing to the desktop composition layer. So if you bypass the desktop composition (running full screen) it may bypass whatever is slowing it down.

The other option is to run a benchmark tool on all GPU's in the system and see if they are all performing the same or one is indeed performing better than the other.

Here's an example from another notebook manufacturer on how to tune it

Maybe add an Application Profile for FFXIV in the Nvidia Control Panel.
But you will have to play in Full Screen to get SLI to work either way.

I put it into full screen mode and the SLI indicator bar is still at its minimum. I have also added an application profile for FFXIV in the Nvidia control panel and that doesn't seem to help either.
