Caching patches with a Squid server?

I know this is a pretty technical question, but does anyone have any knowledge of using a Squid proxy server to cache the updates for FFXIV?

For thoes who dont know here is a link to what Squid is: http://www.squid-cache.org/

Some of these patches and updates can get pretty big, and with my wife and I both playing, and we have several friends over on the weekends who play with us, it can really start to bog things down with all of us downloading the same patches at the same time. If I could get Squid to cache the updates then the patches would only need to download once, and then everyone else would just be pulling them from the squid server.

Not only that, but it can get to be down right ridiculous when the game needs to be reinstalled. it took about 3.5 hours to install the game on my new laptop. That's pretty bad considering I have 130Mb/s internet.

You could download the patch on a single machine, then copy the installed game on top of the other installations on the other machines. That's what I do, and it works like a charm - the game just checks the registry to see that it actually IS installed (which would be a yes), not to confirm version or anything like that.

It won't help with reinstalls, obviously, but it should be a huge help for the initial expansion download.

that's actually what I currently do, I was trying to streamline things a bit. If I could get Squid to cache the update files, then the other XIV clients in the house would just pull from the local server, and they wouldn't even know it. It would all be completely seamless.
