Why is a person who joins an In progress dungeon a bad person. They didn't join just to help out their fellow players they joined for the gear. You make it sound like that person shouldn't have rolled on anything just cause he didn't run the entire dungeon as you did. We have all watched gear we wanted slip through our fingers I think you just got a little to emotional about it but don't try to vilify someone just cause they got lucky and got the stuff you wanted.

Queuing for In Progress is not you signing some unwritten agreement that you relinquish all rights to loot; it's a two-way mechanic. You queue for In Progress, and the team queues for replacement. That right there is a traded agreement that you are now fully part of that group and have access to everything.

Funny story, OP. Back when FCoB had been out for all of 3 whole weeks my static was trying to clear T11 and our BLM went and got himself killed when the boss still had 46% hp. Then he accidentally released.

What do you think dropped? ...he got loot he didn't deserve and that's just how it goes.

Shit like that certainly happens(our BLM did that too during t11, hah!) and sucks when it does, lol, but I am glad no one reprimanded him for it. It's only when things like that happen that you then hold them in expectation to work all the more harder in future efforts and make the drop worthwhile.

Sorry you felt cheated but I have to go with the majority here. Yes it sucks that they didn't pull their weight in the battle they were a part of, but you don't know the story behind this person. They may have also ran that same instance 50 times trying for that one drop, clicking in progress in the hope they don't have to do the entire run for the one drop. I've done this. I have a 2 year old kid so I don't have the play time to do full multiple runs so when I do get an in progress, HUZZAH! (I do actually do my job when I get in one though lol.)

Like someone said previously, the only way to avoid this is to run those dungeons with the job you want the loot for. I wouldn't hold your breath to see if the BRD gear can be worn by Machinist though, the rest of the WoD gear is job specific, not class. (WHM is WHM only etc.)

If you want specific gear, que as specific class. If you don't have specific class, you can't equip specific gear. Sounds fair enough to me.

If you want the loot for a class you have to go as the class you need it for. Making people out to be giant pricks for greeding on something you're also greeding on just makes you look really silly. Greed is greed, you aren't any more entitled to a non class piece of armor than the next guy.

It sucks OP, but this is the nature of the game. I have had times where someone did nothing, pressed /roll and got the item. I got pissed off and I moved on. The item will drop again, do not worry and have fun. I know it sucks, but that is how mmorpg are, alot of RNG is at play and sometimes the person working the hardest is the one comming out of the dungeon with nothing.

Back when we had the weekly cap of 1 item per character in WoD, I wanted to get the healer hat. So I joined as a healer and the other healer was afk most of the run (other players would not kick him out). I helped the party by healing and doing some damage aswell. The run was a hell, people started insulting each other, but when the boss dropped the healer hat, I was happy. Untill I noticed that the same healer who was afk the whole time pressed NEED on the item and won it. It sucked alot and to be honest I was very angry.

But this is a game, there is no need to be angry, next time when you are farming for a item set, do what I did. Ask for a full FC/LS/Friends party. Those players will respect your wishes and will probaly not stab you in the back and roll for it. I did this and got the full healer set that way.

Do not let these experiences rob you of a good mmorpg, RNG is RNG, move on and try again or be smart and make it so the odds are in your favour.

EDIT: You dont need a i120 gear, if you want to have a set ready for you Machinist, farm sol for the i100/110 set, its alot faster and good enough for the first two zones of HW (according to interviews).

The guy who won didn't know that he was joining boss at 10%. If you want to take the right to loot from people who join like this, you might end up in raid with 17 people because no one will bother to join in progress. You are angry and you obviously cannot see the impact of stuff you suggest.

And honestly, if you left for 1 year, came back and whine again, it is probably better for you just to leave for good. Heavensward won't most probably offer less RNG than ARR and I guess you have to be OK with that or stop playing.
