So dungeons are duties right, a quest is a duty or a quest? I would think quest but why do I see

QUEST STATO in my face

Um. Quests are those things you see on the quest list. Duties are those things you queue for.
Uhh???? A duty can be a quest, and a quest can be a duty.
But they are not the same thing.
A Duty is an instance that you queue for and leave the open world. Some very special solo quests (such as Main Scenario Quests and Class/Job Quests) involve Single Player solo duties.
Quests may involve duties (instances), but the start of a quest, and then again at the hand-in (finish) are usually done in the regular open world.
It seems a little hard to explain. I guess the simplest way I can put it is that a Duty involves a Timed Instance, and a Quest can be anything.
"Duty" refers to anything that runs an instance (a unique copy of part of the game world that only you or your party can access,) even if it's only a partial instance. This includes dungeons, pvp, quest battles (the ones that warn you about level sync before loading a private battelfield,) and levequests. Levequests and treasure maps are partially instanced - you stay in the main zone, but the enemies are locked to you or your party and cannot be attacked by anyone else. You are considered "Bound by duty."
"Quest" refers to anything that is listed in your journal. You acquire them by talking to NPCs marked with specific icons over their heads. There is a confirmation box upon accepting each quest and another, often offering rewards, upon returning to the NPC after completing the objectives. This is the same as most other MMOs.
Many quests include duties. Solo duties can only be completed once, but group duties are added to the "Duty Finder" and can be competed multiple times.
The command /sigh does not exist.
Ah ya that makes sense, thanks guys ^ ^
