Red face A few questions that will role Veterans eyes!

Hope this thread doesn't get me lynched by the Veteran mob. I still feel there are some very basic things I am not doing to fully enjoy my experience on FFxiv.

1: How do I start crafting stuff? My main area is Limsa Lominsa and i dont seem to be able to find any quest giver that does this? Is it a later quest for higher levels?
2: How do I ride mounts? I know where to option is yet it says I am unable to do this action. Again, is it a higher level? In the main campaign i have picked my group and current in the quest trying to get the sylphs on our side who worship Ramuh (If that makes sense).
3: Is there an easier way to requests friends other than having to remember their name? Some names are crazy like 12el6main45doom(Rawkz) or something like that which makes it very difficault if you have had a good time with randoms and they run off before you can request them. Is there not some way of finding "recently met" players?

And thats about it for now. please be nice.

Hi! These are perfectly valid questions.

1: Your crafting classes are just as valid as your combat classes. As long as you have reached a point in the main story that you can change your class, you can unlock crafting and gathering classes at their respective guilds, just like combat classes. You can find the Blacksmith, Armorer, Culinarian, and Fisher's guilds around Limsa Lominsa. Take a look next time you're around!
2: You need to unlock the ability to ride mounts, like many things, by completing the Main Story quests up to a certain extent. I believe the quest for that is around level 20-25ish- you'll know when you're getting company seals to buy a chocobo. Once you can ride a chocobo, you can ride anything else you own too.
3: Not really. There's not much of a way to keep people from making gibberish for names, but the clerk at the adventurer's guild when you began did say there's a special circle of hell just for people like that. The easiest way really is to just manually put their name into player search- or at least, as much of it as you remember.

Welcome to Eorzea! These questions are completely valid

1: The initial "quests" for any class is not marked on the map. You have to go to the guild for each one and in each one should be a guild receptionist with a '!' over their head. Talk to them and then talk to them again to start the unlock quest for that class.
2: To unlock the ability to ride mounts you must first get your Grand Company chocobo which is done through the quest "My Little Chocobo (insert your GC name)." The quest will task you with obtaining a Chocobo Permit which if I remember correctly costs 2000 seals from your Grand Company Quartermaster. Once you complete the quest and get your Grand Company chocobo you will be able to use mounts.
3: Sadly there is no recently played with players feature. You're just gonna have to either try to remember their name. If they say something in chat then you can right click or press square on their name to bring up a list of options one of which is "Send Friend Request." This does not work in DF as DF pulls from other servers within a data center.

    Naw, everybody's new sometimes.

    1) You unlock crafting by unlocking crafting classes, which you do like you unlock any class--you go to the guildmaster and do the unlock quest. Make sure you've been doing your Marauder class quests at the Marauder's Guild--you have to do the level 10 one before you can unlock other classes. Note that the unlock quests do NOT show up on your map. Just go the Guild symbol and the guild receptionist will have the "!" over her head. That'll be the unlock quest.
    2) You have to get your chocobo from your Grand Company; the quest is "My Little Chocobo". You'll need 2000 GC seals to buy your license and complete the quest. If you're at the Sylphs in the main scenario, that'll be available to you.
    3) If their name is still in your chat log, you can right click it for a menu that includes sending a friend request.

Speaking of unlocking classes, you're getting close to level 30, where the Marauder job, Warrior, becomes available. You'll be wanting to level Gladiator to 15, as that's a requirement for Warrior. Gladiator's guild is in Ul'dah.

The others answered your questions. No worries, this community is very welcoming and nice to new people especially. The gets better after that mission.....when i got my chocobo finally. I was geeking out. Its a big help in the MSQ missions/ sidequests/FATES.

WELCOME TO FF14- hope you make this your new home!

Whilst you will unlock Warrior at that level I'd suggest you take Gladiator up to 22 so you can unlock Provoke for use on your Warrior, you'll need it for some of the tougher fights later where tankswapping is key.
