So I guess I just spent money on nothing

I got the core game via Steam and just decided to get Heavensward via the Square Enix store to avoid giving Steam anymore money after that paid mods crap they tried pulling earlier.

Process was convoluted and poorly thought out and then I got to the part where I can redeem a 20 digit code on Mogstation. Nothing is clear about exactly what this key is; I don't know if it's the key for Heavensward and the bonus items or if it's just the bonus items and I have to wait to unlock a separate key when early access becomes available.

Oh, and it doesn't redeem either. It's invalid every time I try. So then I look up a bunch of stuff. I see that there's not many keys and that Square will email a new one, I see that EU keys are being distributed and you have to wait for a new one, and I see vague information about Steam/non-Steam links. So, which is it? Is Square distributing bad keys or am I just screwed now and I cannot redeem this unless I pay double to get HS on steam even though there was absolutely no warning about how the account works?

If it's the latter, I will not buy it again. There was no warning at all anywhere and information I have found is too vague.

EDIT: A previous window I encountered explaining maintenance in multiple languages has popped up in Mogstation now. I don't know why Mogstation hasn't re-directed me to it before, but it does now. Previously, I saw this from a link in a tutorial from reddit. I guess I'll wait until maintenance ends for now and then see if the code will validate.

EDIT2: Now it doesn't redirect to a maintenance notice. Guess the site is just broken/horribly coded. Ignore previous edit.

Unfortunately, once you buy the base game from steam, you're pretty much locked into steam for any of the expansions. One major reason why I don't trust steam for mmo's.

I received one code for bonus items from Heavensward Collector's Edition and the expansion itself has a release date which I assume will be replaced with another key/download or something when early access is available. The code I have right now is apparently invalid.

That's...an incredible problem and should be able to be set straight.

There is actually a warning right on the Store page for Heavensward on the SE store that says:

Notice: This product is not compatible with the Steam version of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn. If you’ve purchased FFXIV: A Realm Reborn on Steam, then you must also purchase FFXIV: Heavensward on Steam to upgrade your existing account.

There is actually a warning right on the Store page for Heavensward on the SE store that says:

Lovely, and I obviously can't get a refund. Thank you for robbing me, Square.

EDIT: Visiting the store itself, I found that I can cancel my pre-order. Now I just need to know if this cancelled billing, and I'll be able to get the proper version.

resolve it by buying the steam version , u cant buy the expansion seperatly ,must first buy the base arr then the expansion

this happened due to registering your account with the free give away when 2.0 was launched
there is no way to change the account from steam into windows to resolve the issue
my account is shown as steam to the support , but i i am not playing the game through the steam systems....... we are special we pay more

I've cancelled and sent a support message. If I can't refund and then buy the steam version to avoid paying twice, I'm just going to have to block the billing process.
