medals are based on how many times you "like" posts i believe. So it means you've "liked" more posts than them.
It used to be based on post count, then switched to how many ppl have liked -your- posts, and then switched to how many posts you have -liked-

Medals are awarded for up thumbs you get.

Medals are rewarded from "likes" on your posts. Crowns are rewarded when you've made enough of a shit storm to garner the attention of a rep who has recently been informed about something (from the devs) relevant to your topic.
