It's a scary experience. The second your SP bar stops going up you end up staring at the screen for a bit thinking "ok.... now what do i do?"

That;s the point when you need to be in a good linkshell, veteran players are very good at explaining an easy and fast way to move from the grind to the end-game.

Also, Teknoman has a sig of Butz (b'.')b

I dont mind having to change gear 3 + months after Ive received em tbh. Sure its sad to let go of gear that you like to looks of, but thats the difference between mmorpg and single player rpgs. MMOs constantly evolve while singleplayer rpgs are static.

Even in WoW i did not have much time to enjoy my Tier 11 heroic set before Firelands was released 2 weeks later after getting every HC items collected, but its nice to see fresh gear and look of my character change ^^

And no, i dont play WoW anymore cause I so much prefer XIV now^^

Yup, in honor of what we'll be riding and defending...hopefully before the month is over And of course encouraging the "Final Fantasy feel". On end game situations, i'd like things similar to XI, where there might always be a new story scenario to tackle, and multiple challenges to take on.

EDIT: Just remembered we'll probably be converting alot of our gear to materia anyway, or trying to find ways to add more slots to the items, so you might want to hold onto items with more slots...or with better base stats. That should add alot in the way of user choice and keeping certain items viable. That and 3 months really isnt that short of a time either. You'll probably be ok with whatever equipment you decided to go for, since i'm sure new equipment introduced just 3 months afterwards wont be THAT much better, unless you're one that wants to max out no matter what.

Not just for the sake of Chocobo, but don't forget FF5 had what you could possibly describe as a 'beta armory system', since you could change jobs then mix and match too. So your sig is extremely relevant ^.^

    Hate this idea.

There are other ways to make an MMO without just making it a constant gear grind.

Gear isn't the only incentive for getting people to do stuff.

True, thats why they really need to bring it when it comes to story once again. They've already got a great set up with various deities, high tech "evil" empires (might just be misunderstood or stubborn), and various beast tribes with their own deities. The story missions (with party based boss battles and cutscenes) just need to start rolling in. Also quests with their own mini storylines...and well thought out cutscenes.

This is what I would prefer. Gear that takes a while to get, but once you get it, it last you a very long time.

Less big achievements > more small achievements, though I think a healthy mix of both is the best.

Idk about others but I think most people will agree with me: I don't want to spend all my play time in a dungeon that will last for 3-4 month.

    What I want is
1st: Gaining access to End game zones (with long and hard senario quests --> just like CoP)
2nd: Have End game zones that will last for years to obtain gears that will be the best for real long time.
3rd: Have real zones for end game content; not only a short path to get to a NM (Like sky/sea etc^^)
4th: Have content (other than end game) that will keep me logged in. (I want to farm ruby!!!)

I also think they really should put a meaning in farming. This is what makes pple spend time in game. (Like farming BC )

Sorry for XI references but thats the only MMO I know and seriously, it was perfect! (Except maybe for bots monopolyzing HNMS XD)

I don't like the idea, but it seems to be a required evil of the development style.

With quick, easy, accesable content, with no limits mind you. Nothing will be "Unobtainable" within a week or so for the most serious players, nothing will be "Hard to get" because people will complain it ruins their game experience and the developers seem to want to avoid alientating this crowd.

To appease the players who are "Hardcore" and will get everything they need within a month or so they need something else to strive for. Casual players can then move on to the new content and try and earn a few peices of the new gear leaving the old stuff in the dust with little to no reason to hunt for it anymore.

FFXIV is heading in a unsustainable direction, WoW is starting to languish due to it's rapid and constant out-dating of gear. Give FFXIV a year or two and it will begin to languish due to people just feeling like it's "Pointless" to even try because it's going to be useless next week anyways.

FFXI Leaping boots were pretty much defacto meele boots for like 50 levels of the game...but that stuff took "Time" to get, the enemy of players these days. The boots were "Hard" to get becuase you had to spend time or money (A absurd ammount to new players) to get gear that was the BEST gear to have.

FFXIV can't have that, we can't leave players with less time or comitment in the dust! We can't give them "Good but not the best" options. The best gear needs to be available to everyone at anytime. Do you see where I'm going with this?

In my opinion it's a bad idea and I hope developers see this as well. There needs to be some sort of goals for people to accomplish that everyone else can't just spend 10 minutes and do as well. Time sinks are a MMO staple for a reason, they "Suck" but they also make the reward for that investment all the greater. Leaping boots wouldn't be so grand if they were handed to every player who as much as looked at Leaping Lizzy the wrong way, because he spawned every 1-5 minutes.
