Lag only in FF14, no where else on the Internet.

This has only started affecting me in the past two weeks or so. I have the fastest internet my ISP provides. (Rogers is my ISP, located in Toronto, Canada)

I've been getting very random lag spikes and rubber banding. It's pretty rare my actual character lags, but the big issue is my chat. I don't see things in chat until 10-15 minutes after the message was sent. This is making things like talking to my parties in dungeons nearly impossible. I've also been getting many 90002 errors which usually lead into 2002 errors, and just now I got a 10152 (I think that was the number) error when trying to log back in directly after a 90002/2002 combo.

This is driving me crazy and I'm really worried about this being an issue for heavensward, which I took time off work for. Please help! >_<

I'm on Hyperion, if it matters.

    IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT

I pingtested the hyperion server in command prompt and got 4 requests timed out, so 4 packets sent, 0 received, 100% packet loss. Tested it 3 times and got the same result 3 times.

Then I pingtested Behemoth server (Which is also in the Primal Data Centre) and got perfect results 3 times in a row. So it looks like my issue is with the Hyperion server. What can I do about this? My static is on hyperion as well as my FC and I don't want to leave either.

Where did you find individual IP addresses for each world? I only saw a list for the data centers themselves.

Make sure you are pingig the proper IP address. The ones at arrstatus are not entirely accurate. Each world is served on multiple ip's (at least 3 have been documented for Midgard) and SE has changed our assignments several times since that site went up, but that site still shows the same single address for any given world. Note also they list the same address for multiple worlds.

Open resmon or run a netstat once you are fully logged in to see what address you actually use (if you do it prior to loading fully into the game you may catch the lobby server that only manages the logins for all 12 or so worlds within it's cluster--it isn't used during gameplay nor zoning after that initial loading during login).

I ran a netstat but I'm not sure which of this avalanche of IP's would be the game server's.

EDIT: I found it in resmon. Yeah, I'm pinging the server fine, so I guess it's nothing to do with that. Still getting frustrating lag though. :-/

Could just be more of the typical peering exchange issues we have been seeing off and on for years. For the most part Cogent and TATA have been holding up somewhat decent through most of the Montreal area, but been seeing more of the usual flakiness coming around Toronto and into Montreal. Level3 has had their usual suspects (their car2 segments act up almost weekly it seems) and the alter.net (Verizon) and the old TiNet/SPA segments have been bogging down as well.

There is just so much traffic in/around the north east that it is getting harder and harder to get around the congestion. You would think with the absurd prices some of these guys charge for bandwidth ($40/a month for basic plans of 15mb or less) that they could afford to hook up some more 10gb ports at their exchange points. Not expecting a full scale fiber rollout...just fix their sh!t so it can handle the bandwidth they are selling us.

You'd certainly think so... I live 15 miles out in the country, so i have to utilize wireless internet for my daily net-surfing and netflix-binging needs, and it costs me $100 a month for 6mbps. I use my phone's 4g hotspot for FFXIV, cuz it has a latency of about 40 whereas the wireless connection i use is around 120-200ms. I think the only thing worse than America's school system is our infrastructure. I don't have a whole lot of faith that Project Loon is going to be the savior for our bandwidth crisis, but it could certainly pioneer a new frontier that could help free up the congestion. It won't be ideal for gaming, but it could certainly meet the needs for the casual internet user and probably even those who just use it for things like netflix, where bandwidth > latency. It frees up the ground infrastructure for us gamers.

Now, i'm sure you already know about it given the fact that you seem quite knowledgable about the topic, OP (much moreso than i am, not even sure if it's a suitable solution for you)... But WTFast is free now, and it has really saved at least one of my raid static members connection. He had horrible lag until he finally tried it. May be worth looking into if you haven't already.

But as Raist says you may actually be connecting to any # of ips.

Request timed out is normal for some of the ips as well. They are just setup to not return ping requests.

@Mike - have you reset your router in a while?

Oh. This. Completely forgot about it/the fact you can view the IPs...

Yeah, doesn't seem to do anything. If it matters I have a router/modem hybrid provided by Rogers. (My ISP)
