I used to have a similar issue with loading and immediate crashes before with ATI cards, but checking LoD in the graphics setting seemed to fix this error.
However, now either the same problem has come back, or something similar has come up.
Yesterday I loaded up Mor Dhona and when the screen started to load, I crashed to desktop. Loading up the game again resulted in the same thing. Over and over. So I restarted my system, and it seemed to load fine (albeit way more slower than usual).
Today I was in my house crafting and it crashed to desktop. Loaded again, and immediate crash to desktop. Loaded a third time, and I didn't immediately crash but opening my inventory, all the icons were grey squares. I waited a minute to let it load, tried to access my retainer (who didn't actually show up), game crashes to desktop.
Thinking this may be like yesterday, I rebooted the system and attempted to load the game. Again, crash to desktop immediately after loading.
I reinstalled the game (imported my prior settings), patched, put my graphics to the lowest they can (still with LoD enabled), and still crash to desktop nearly immediately after I changed the settings.
The below is the windows error I am receiving:

My specs:
Intel i7-990x
Asus Rampage III Extreme
6 GB Ram (Tri-channel)
ATI Radeon HD 5970 Black Edition
Windows 7 64bit
Funny enough when I was loading to get the appcrash data, it let me play for 15 minutes. As soon as I switched classes and it loaded the gear, it crashed me and then reloading caused it to crash on the character select screen this time.
I've done some diagnostic checks on my RAM and HDD, and both seem to be checking out okay. Graphics card drivers are up to date, and same with windows updates. Not sure what else to check out now.
