I don't think servers are going to be expanded.
The only thing you can do (which is probably not even worth the trouble) is transfer to a low/mid population server if you are on a high populated one, do all story quests and transfer back when you think it's time
Doubt it. The most they might do is lock character creation indefinitely until it settles down on full/high population servers and funnel new character creations into the medium population and lower servers.
Some of us have been on Balmung since before it was ever named Balmung. I fully expect there to be queues, but since its so active as it is, and the server has been closed for so long, I feel that it will actually be less impacted. I could be wrong, but who knows.
Queue times have nothing to do with which server you're on. It depends on which data center you're in. Instances are shared between a whole data center.Thats what those servers get for players moving from medium and low server to those servers BECAUSE it has most people for faster queues and way more groups in party finder.
This will be a hard few weeks for those servers, but then they will reign top for popularity soon.
It sounds like you're talking about dungeon queues when I think the topic has been about login queues that hit you when you first log on to the server. As a Balmunger myself, I've never seen my place in queue higher than 100th. And before Balmung, I was on Behemoth and logging on there was just as painful.
Though I agree, that because Balmung has been closed to character creations except for odd hours of the morning, I'm optimistic about how early access will impact Balmung. I don't remember being any issues in Limsa when Rogue first launched.
problem is people now know to wait until early in the morning so it's unlocked - it needs to be locked continuously for a period of time.
Well a lot of this is the "New game train" and its temporary. I think a lot of the newcomers will be routed to the low pop servers. And the main story requirements will keep the band waggon hoppers out of the new areas for a couple weeks. While all the returning players will drag it down a bit. It shouldn't be as bad as launch.
How can Balmung's population possibly double when you need to make a blood offering to get a character made on it?One thing that freaks me out is that I nearly always get a queue when logging into balmung. And right now, not -that- many people seem to be playing.
If the population doubles when the expansion is released, will servers with heavy populations (like balmung) be able to handle the load?
I get disconnected a lot, and it would really suck if I couldn't complete a dungeon because of a 20min+ queue wait each time I have to log back in. Even now I occasionally miss out on a dungeon if I D/C near the end, due to the occasional long queue.
I know a lot of ppl on balmung still have a character on there, but haven't been online for half a year. I have a feeling most of them will all come back at once to try out the expansion. So there's a chance that there will be double the normal amount of people -playing-.
So overall population may not increase
But the # of people trying to play at once may spike for a few weeks
