    Because...

    A) It's not actually out of your control. Running the game on a better machine would improve your play experience and that of others in this case. That being said, I know it isn't always feasible to run out and upgrade or replace your equipment at the drop of a hat.

    B) This (or something else that caused you to withdraw at the ready prompt) must have already happened at least twice in the same 24-hour period before you received a penalty. If not, then you should file a bug report.

    C) The small evil of inconveniencing the occasional "normal" player is balanced against the larger concern of reducing the occurrence of in-progress fishing and outright trollish queue behavior.

Yes. Which should tell you about the load times I experience sometimes. I missed several queues simply because of the load times.

LOL! Wut? Are you kidding? I've played much bigger MMO games (such as WoW, where trolldom is an art form) and let me tell you that I've never seen queue shenanigans. Ever. Even in LFR, which is so trollilicious that it ain't funny. Overall, the only people who almost always get insta queues are tanks. The fact that you have to wait a hour or two if you miss the group when it pops is big enough of a penalty for DPS. If you really feel like there is a problem then you should be in favor of tank only penalties.

I'm going to assume that you're relatively new to the game and probably started playing after this change went into effect. Queue shenanigans were far worse before the penalty for third and subsequent withdrawals at the acceptance prompt was put into place, as players of all roles would constantly fish for in-progress queues due to the lack of penalty. It was worst with 24-person content since even a few persistent fishers could hold up queues for quite some time.

As a player of other MMOs, you should already understand that not all aspects of your gaming experience will be the same here. Also, if you think that tanks are the only ones who cause problems with queues, you're very wrong.

So why didn't they just make it so you can't tell if it's in progress and, once actually in the dungeon, give players the 30 minute debuff who quit the group.

I suppose they could have removed the "in-progress" notification at the acceptance prompt, but they'd also have to rework how the entire prompt is displayed since it's still obviously in-progress when you are almost always the only person not to have already accepted the prompt the instant it appears.

There was a bit of pushback when they introduced the withdrawal penalty, but it has definitely minimized the amount of time spent playing whack-a-mole with the prompt window.

All it has to say is that 'A dungeon party has been found!' and have okay and leave queue. If it's a specific dungeon, then all it has to say is that 'a party has been found'. It's not that hard. After you hit okay then you're liable for the deserter debuff -- including those who try to duck out by DCing. A kick from a group that hasn't beaten the first boss should result in a debuff as well. It's direct and it targets those who do this.

I recall sitting in queue with withdrawn queue pops for over 90 minutes trying to enter CT. It was not just tanks but also crafters or afk dps who failed to accept. The penalty, while harsh, has gone a long way to improve the issue.

The outcry from the community with specific requests for a penalty is why we have one in place. They did remove the actual progress status from the 24 man raids.

When using a PS3, I've found that i will be loading in while a duty commencement pops up.

Usually I steer clear of Mor Dhona if I'm expecting to queue fast, since it takes longer to load there than to accept the duty prompt.

Same problems with joining player's parties, or finding out that Odin spawned and you need to turn back around into the Central Shroud.....
