You know how Free Companies have tags like Casual, Hardcore, Roleplay, and the like? What do you think would happen if players were able to give their characters such tags as to be matched up with similarly tagged characters in DF?

I'd just tag whatever gets me the fastest queue.
Isn't that what the party finder is for? It has similar tags. And the issue with your idea is it would fragment the players and add to the queue times. Duty finder works because you just sign up and go. To let players sign up based on a specific tag would potentially split up everyone because now people want to queue up only for specific groups and if one group still doesn't have enough people to start the duty, DF will probably throw in a random player to help fill the gap; woe to anyone who signed up for casual getting thrown into a hardcore matchup because they couldn't get a slot filled.

Dividing the players using the DF into groups based on their preferd playstyle will only cause even longer qeue times then there already is.
Chaos, destruction and the like.

1) Fresh level 50 / 60 with crappy gear, tags all options to get faster queue.
2) Gets grouped with a wannabe-uber elite-hardcore-speedrun group.
3) "LOOK AT UR GEAR WTF U TAGGED HARDCOR 4, U SCRUB"
4) Gets kicked from the dungeon.
The idea could work, but not in duty finder. I envision something like WoW's system where you flag up with your tags an a list of content you are available for. They have that over there for raiding - then leaders (it works cross server) can look through the list and invite you based on what they are looking for in their parties. Honestly that system is just so superior to the current party finder for leaders who are assertive and want to build parties. Right now with the way it is you are at the mercy of whoever happens to look and sometimes you get one class that joins just before another class and if you had known what was coming, you might have looked for a different person to round out the jobs.
Yes, you can drill down into specifics for what you will accept, but that doesn't let you make changes on the fly based on what you see is available. I'd like that kind of granular control.

I feel that people fail to accurately tag themselves more often than not. Few people have the self awareness to say that they are not hardcore. You also will have to deal with people fishing for a set group.
Want to clear T5 even though you've failed many times before? Tag yourself as hardcore.
Want to take it easy in a dungeon and just screw around? (Inaccurately) Tag yourself as casual.
What's stopping people from doing that now? They still join PF groups that are looking for specifics they don't meet. Can't police everything, but SE CAN give us some tools to facilitate the party building process and let us handle it from there.
