    I 100% agree with this thread. Please give items a more unique and special feeling.
    Additional effects in other games was always something that made the items feel better for me.

    I also don't like how all endgame gear minus the crafted is lacking materia slots / such a low cap on stats that you can add to the item...

    Doesn't work well with sharp vertical progression models. Every new fight has to be designed with all those abilities in mind, so either they keep fights as is, and they become trivial, or they are tuned with the extra powers and to hard for groups without them, or they just make the effects so inconsequential that they don't affect balance.

    If they made relic weapons actually powerful, the counterbalance would be in making them MUCH harder/rarer to obtain. See ffxi where they took years and an army of man power to complete just 1. You don't have to design content around them because they were so rare they weren't a consideration.

    If they are easy to get as they currently are, they can't be powerful. If they have strong effects but are balanced by being weaker, you still gain nothing.

    We can't have super impact full relics that you can obtain so easily because they throw off the tuning for fights. Relics are either dull and common, or godly and non of us would have one. Can't have both. This is before the social ramifications and exclusion of non relic players is accounted for if they are fairly common and godly. To many problems. No real gain.

    I can relate with that. First time I saw the names of those spells I assumed that Fire II and Fire III was simply stronger versions of Fire at a higher level, but it wasn't until I got to those levels as a BLM that I found out it was simply different spells with their own effects instead of a stronger form of the first spell.
