Shortage of tanks a myth - thoughts?

Do I think that dungeons should be speed pulled as long as everyone's geared for it? Sure. I'm always up for a good speed run no matter what role I'm in. Enough people are uncomfortable with it for various reasons that it's just not gonna happen, though.

Speedpulling is part of the reason people get rightfully upset, because the tank never ask the healers what they can handle, nor do they look at what DPS configuration they have. Two Melee's, forget speedpulling (they will get creamed by the mobs AOE's, regardless of gear.) Two BLM's, Speedpull as much as possible if they are overgeared for the dungeon. BRD and SMN? Probably not going to happen.

I've said it before, any appropriately geared player can handle "two closest pulls" without worrying about a wipe. One pull is for when you are just barely above the minimum level/ilevel. Speedpulls are something the developers likely never intended (and still can't be done well with some dungeons,) but came about through emergent gameplay. The developers threw more road cones into other instances to prevent speedpulling.

I used to tank low levil rouletts, but stoped now. I wont even try to tank any of the higher roulett's. I'm just not confertable with pulling muliple groups of mobs at a time. I only did low level roulett's cause the pace was much smoother for me.

I main a healer now, and finally getting used to spamming cure II's on tanks now, because all i see is SR's in high/expert roulett's anymore. I dont play tank like that, so nope only thing i'll do is low level stuff with my tank.

Guess what here's something strange. I can't come to like any DPS Class (i was dpsing in every mmo before xiv) and i absolutely love the tanking classes. Dpsing looks so boring here i insta rolled a Tank and im Happy with it. If someone comes at me the wrong Way i let him choose. Play with me and be quiet, or wait for another Tank (which likely will not happen) and break up the whole Dungeon.

At that, nobody should be even attempting to SR Halatali NM. Wouldn't fly well on Famfrit, and healer would probably let you die on purpose till your lesson has been learned :P

Funny enough, the most rotten attitude I've dealt with recently was another tank when I was tanking an 8-man. Absolutely toxic player. We almost halted T4 so we could kick him for harassment. (Not naming names, but he's on Exodus. He was so bad I looked him up to see if I needed to blacklist him on my server.)

If you go into content with a cheerful and positive attitude yourself, most people make an attempt to reciprocate.

Thanks for the replies all - and yep, I agree with Kosmos and the general sentiment here. I think I may have mis-named the thread, and I should've thrown 'in duty finder' in there, as I think that there actually is a shortage of tanks, but this shortage is only of tanks willing to do Duty Finder // I think many here have admitted to keeping to their own FC or friends to use their tanks and yes, this does lead to a shortage in Duty Finder if many won't queue up for it. My own personal 'straw that broke the camels back' was when I was verbally abused for not knowing the Yeti mechanics while running it on the first day it came out.... yes, the first day. And this from a BLM who did nothing but spam flare and didn't have ARC leveled high enough for Quelling... After that - yep, no more tanking except for friends -- it wasn't fun and I only play this game for fun

One of the things I'm actually worried about, is I main tank classes (plan to level DRK too)... but I will be taking almost a year off to travel in the fall.

When I come back, it's going to be a steep learning curve filled with a-holes yelling at me in DF dungeons.
