Your friend asked for a refund for Civ5 ...what?!...why?!...WHY?!You can get one no questions asked if it's within 14 days from purchase and has been played for less than 2hrs. However, they'll still consider it even if it doesn't meet the previous stated questions. OP might as well try; it worked for my friend with Civ5.

Soooooooo, OP, what's stopping you from resuming to play your Steam version, and waiting with the bundle till it becomes available?
You weren't getting EA, that you had to know, so playing now using Steam and then switching gives you exactly the same experience as playing using the bundle right now.
Just a sidenote: if he already buoght that game over steam, he can't register a regular PC version to the same service account.

Nor import your current character. You will have to make a new one also lose all your veteran rewards since you cant share the same account of physical with steam account. Blame Steam for that shitty rules. So your current character in steam can't be played in the bundle you just bought, it will be like a fresh new start. If you continue to play in steam you will continue to have all you have done and get.
Same will happen with monthly, one cant support both.
To be honest, steam client is bad, too many restrictions. With normal you can share with ps3/ps4 and switch between them.

Correct, but I don't think they're trying to switch to PC:
I have Steam and PS4 for the same service account. I can freely switch between them at any time. Steam only locks it so you can't play the same service account on the PC platform (MAC, Windows Versions).
I... have to say "not really". They can use that Early Access to start getting to Heavensward. Even if they only make it to, say, level 30, that's still 30 levels they wouldn't have if they hadn't had Early Access. Sure, they (most likely) won't be able to enter Ishgard or anything during Early Access, but that doesn't mean it would be pointless. The bundle is set for the 23rd because it's intended for future (as in, -after- 6/23/2015) new players looking to jump into the game. There's no pre-order bonus because the intended demographic are players who don't have either ARR or the expansion; a new player given early access to Heavensward would be moot because they would log in on the 19th and need to complete the entire current Main Story Quest before they could even access Heavensward.
Either way, it is what it is =/
Oh I don't know...it couldn't possibly be because NOBODY else can play on a client that has Heavensward content in it until at least the 19th, could it??? Not to mention you bought the wrong one. Not to mention you skipped reading the fine as well as the big print...So I just purchased the bundle pack to get away from my steam license (horrible decision getting the game through there).
And apparently, the base game is locked out until the expansion is released.
WTF?!
Why am I not allowed to activate anything for the game until the expansion comes out?
/sarcasm off.
Blame nobody but yourself.
