Not allowed to play at all until 6/24?!

So I just purchased the bundle pack to get away from my steam license (horrible decision getting the game through there).
And apparently, the base game is locked out until the expansion is released.

WTF?!

So, again, because I took a perfectly valid choice in how I purchased the game, I'm getting screwed over.
Why am I not allowed to activate anything for the game until the expansion comes out?

I have purchased many (honestly far too many) games over the years, and I have never experienced the bungled mess that is trying to get this damn expansion.

At this point, I think I'll just cut my losses on the money, I have lost interest in playing since Sony has seen fit to make it as difficult as possible for me to be able to.

its actually said on each of the sites and even live letter that ppl who buy the bundle pack or mac version has to wait til release to play. so it is reasonable since they said a fair few weeks ago.

You also could have just waited until last weekend when we were allowed to pre-order on Steam and we got our early access codes @_@.

No Early Access for Heavensward I can buy, that's fair enough. But not even being able to play the base game? I.e. FFXIV ARR? "No Early Access" doesn't really equal "No ARR until 23rd" -- to me that makes as much sense as locking everyone who hasn't Early Access from playing the game at all during that weekend...

You should've bought the standalone game if you wanted immediate access. The bundle includes Heavensward in the whole package so it's only common sense that you will not be able to play with that till 6/24.

In hindsight, maybe ^^ up until this thread, I kinda assumed it'd be one of those double-disc dvd covers, with ARR on one disc and Heavensward on the other. Then again, I haven't really played games with expansions before, other than Sims and the Baldur's Gate/Icewynd Dale type of games ^^;

Yup provided it is in a seperate disc but they can't do that unless they sell the physical bundled game on launch since HW is included. I believe the topic starter bought the digital copy which is the only one available right now and Heavensward data is compiled in there. Not unless Square Enix lock Ishgard and all that new content away till launch date while letting players access ARR content for whoever bought the bundle then it is possible for them to play current content first.

They are moving to a new sub away from Steam, because they were upset with how Valve/SE handled our early access and expac experience (they waited until almost the last minute to let us access it). Steam also won't refund FFXIV to my knowledge.

Also to my knowledge Steam will only refund up to 14 days after purchase.

You can get one no questions asked if it's within 14 days from purchase and has been played for less than 2hrs. However, they'll still consider it even if it doesn't meet the previous stated questions. OP might as well try; it worked for my friend with Civ5.
