TL-DR version, SE is hiring 11 new employees for tghe FFXIV team, and just as a juicy addition, several of those positions list "experience in console development" as a preferred trait

A pretty elementary point Watson. When a publisher doesn't have confidence in a game they don't invest even more resources in it, especially not by hiring people.

I don't think I ever saw a game even near to the way to the scrapper for which the publisher did any significant move to hire new people for the team.

That for profit business don't generally hire more employees for a project unless they believe in its ability to turn a greater profit as a result.

For people who play an MMO it is always a good sign when the company is investing more money in it. At this point most MMO studios like Funcom/SOE/Mythic are cannibalizing the team to move them to different projects.

After Vanguard's launch for example (which is pretty comparable to XIV's) they herded most of their developers into a parking lot and shot them.... or laid them off suddenly one of the two. Either way hiring more people is a much better sign.

Someone posted a thread earlier today showing both the case and them playing the closed beta of FFXIV on ps3.

They need new people to be able to manage any quick changes the game will require from input they receive from the beta.

However that thread has been locked and is no longer viewable.

Maybe the person made a fake case and was showing gameplay from the PC version, in which case I've been fooled.

Alternatively since it's a CLOSED beta perhaps the thread has been locked since not everyone is supposed to see it's contents.

That was fake. FF XIV is not in beta on PS3.

I understand our faith might waiver from time to time. But I think it was a very well known fact that at least until PS3 release and even a few months, maybe up to a year after SE is determined not to let FFXIV fall.

I was actually worried if they were in closed beta stage, at the moment it's not a good idea to start it till they've finished making the big core game changes the current patches are working on. PS3 players would get kinda confused if a core change came in that altered the game dramatically.
