Stop whining about this please or our expansions will go from Chains of Promathia (excellent) with heavily gated content behind important story developments to Treasures of Aht Urghan (mediocre) which anyone could do with a Level 30 job. I get some people don't like story driven content, which is cool cause you can skip said cut scenes. Content tied to lore and purpose is better than content for the sake of content that you can access for no particular reason.
i think asking to be able to enter HW without even do the story is a bit....meh... outside the fact that it will recquire a i90 gears (more i100 actually) for be able to start into the expansion. nor the fact that story wise is a nonsense to be able to enter ishgard without the setup of the MSQ.
yeah, other mmorpg do differently, but that the point each game is different. no game outside FF14 can offer this amount of content added every 3 month. none! FF14 is unique, the fact to decide to still stick to the story is also part of what make the game an unique experience.
do them choice is right or bad? up to each to decide this, but it's at least a choice that make the world of FF14 more attractive, because the world expand soo much that no other mmorpg can say the same. and at the same time, it means everyone into Heavensward have seen the whole msq, not simply a part like with wow where people can simply ignore a large part of the story and jump directly into a world that have no sense because they have miss the last add. like with lich king, a player can go into northrend, but the story have no more link with the world since cataclysm! .... here at least the world stay coherent.
if that continue before the third expansion, the world of FF14 will surpass the one of WoW quite easily and the most scary about this.... is the fact we are still on Eorzea the smallest continent of the planet! and you have 3 continent!!!!!
I don't know, at least try to stay relevant?
As it stands, I'm currently a minority, but I still try to share my sentiments and empathize with TC's frustration and disappointment of not being able to enter Ishgard on launch day.
I removed that after noticing your post farther down.
As for me I've got 3 separate characters, all done the MSQ. One of them is a crafter as well as dps. I hate pvp. I have a RL professional career.
I play WoW, Rift, EVE Online and SWTOR. Games are my break from reality.
Obviously one of us likes stories more than the other. Your loss
By the way on Oct 27th 2014 when you made your first forum post about alchemy, you had a level 35 healer. That's a far stretch from 4 months ago.

Probably not four consecutive months, just four months in total *shrug*
OT: Even if I had not done the content I would still be FOR the gating. All the content in 2.0 is going to be far easier now (story-wise) anyway. It's not going to take too much time. My wife plays this and is currently unable to go to the new areas. We know it won't be long as the content is now going to be far, far easier without level sync.
No. Do the story...you've had..what? like at the very least 5 months to finish the story in order to be prepared for heavensward, this has been a requirement since the expansion has been released.
Even if you absolutely LOATHE the story content that much then skip the cutscenes, press that left mouse button like crazy to skip the dialogue, unlock the handful of dungeons and trials along the way ask your fc to help or some friends or someone in shout chat.
I was never particularly fond of the main questline myself because 2.0 was so...hit and miss but i eventually started doing it over 2 and a half months ago and finished it..within like 2 months just doing it casually and i have to say its an epic storyline
Now i get not everyone will have the same tastes as me, but it's a REQUIREMENT i don't think ive ever seen ffxiv change its requirements for anything before (sure they've nerfed content here and there but thats not really changing the requirements to unlock content). On top of that as far as i know a lot of stuff was locked behind 2.0 completion, so it would only make sense that HW content is locked behind 2.55 stuff
In response to just the OP, I agree that there should be alternate ways to get to the Ishgard content. The OP stated that this is a themepark MMO with multiple play styles encouraged therefore it's only fitting that multiple ways to approach the content be provided.
There were plenty of excellent examples of gated content in FFXI that used challenging side-quests to help with further access much like when a player farmed for items to get into Aht Urhgan, or had to run the Maw Maze for Wings of the Goddess in FFXI. There are many ways to gate exclusive content while still providing basic accessibility of the core functions of the game.
Many players who care about this game tend to think critically about the game in order to see its quality of life improve. Please consider addressing this if possible.
This topic is still pretty relevant, but I wish you didn't bump a months-old (AKA Necro) topic, Muin. c:
I think SE can still change this retroactively and let level 30's in to get their quest done. We've seen from the quests how most of them don't even revolve around ishgardian areas (most of them just treat them as a hub you run back to.) - these points could easily be moved or we could be given a way in outside the current story.
Heck, if you're worried about "THUH STORIES NTEGRITY" like people claim, just do what they do with DRG, and have the story say you got in after. Different time periods. Anyone who can defend the DRG disconnect 30-50 for someone who's completed 60 MSQ can't argue against ungating the content for level 30's to unloick new jobs they paid for.
Really lets bump something old jeez i have two characters and i beat the main story with both and unlocked flying with both and? if ppl like me can do this i don't see why someone can't just do it once and don't use oooo but i manly craft. I craft and gather as well :P
