Please Allow 50's to Enter Ishgard w/o having completed MSQ

Short answer. Yes. Let them start at lvl 1. New players don't give a flying f*k about the story sorry. They want to play the game. This game contrary to popular belief is not hard. Tedious yes. Hard no.

I have to disagree with you on this one, I am a new player and I love the story and completely agree that it should be played through prior to accessing the Heavensward content.

I don't find them tedious, they are enjoyable for me at least, and they enable to you gain connection with characters you would otherwise not even have come across had you chosen to omit the story (if such a choice existed). As I've said previously my only concern was the ability to complete the group quests.

Considering that Keeper of the Lake is part of the MSQ, that means that they didn't even bother to unlock Expert Roulette
And if they did, it's all the more ridiculous to complain having to go to Keeper of the Lake aaaaaaalllll the way to Steps Of Faith...

That's not even the half of it.

If someone buys the expansion to play a new class, sure they should have to level to at least 30 but essentially playing for weeks on something they have no interest in just to unlock a feature in a game they just bought? That's absurd. The continuation of using story as justification doesn't work either. It makes no sense for an adventurer in the 2.0 story line to see Mor Dhona as it is now but they do anyway.

Also, complaining that low lvls might run around Ishguard? Who cares? I remember playing older MMOs where you could go anywhere you wanted and that sense of adventure was amazing.

What if they added a quest which allowed people to at least just go to Ishguard at 30 in order to try new classes. Call it "Ishguard is in need of your help" or something, and then lock the Ishguard STORY behind finishing the MSQ up to 50 (Ultima weapon). I'm sure some new adventurers would keep doing 2.1-2.5 anyway for exp but why not give options? It's a game. Let people have fun.

Which is why Yoshi-P said lvling in ARR to 50 will be faster by more than twice the speed before the player embarks on post 2.0 quests towards Ishgard. To get up till 2.55 probably takes a good week, not sure if even that part of the MSQ would be eased to only the more crucial story parts which is mandatory. I agree, there are a lot of mundane quest activity like running around and doing delivery quest or looking for certain NPC and execute emotes. Yup those type of quests bugs the heck out of me as well. Maybe what the developers can do is further streamline the MSQ more to speed things up a little instead of us simply demanding them to give us a free ticket into Ishgard.

I don't really understand why so many gets so worked up how some would like to play this in another way. If certain people would like to skip the story and focus on enjoying the other good parts of the game, how does it affect you so negatively? There's room for all kinds of players here, right? You can still do the Main story as many times you want, be the hero of Eorzea and all that, but from my experiences, there are quite a lot of people who don't give a flying thingy about the story.. which brings me to this..

My situatuon is little different. I want to do the story.. and it's actually the main thing I want to do, but there have been barriers and frustrations all the way up to 50 and now even more. And that's the group content. I would consider myself a terrible player, but a very persistent(in most regards) one and what seems like others are opposite, good players but very impatient. Watching cutscenes and trying to follow the story? Nope, get yelled at and have you skip them. Slightest hints of troubles along the way and people leave and finally party breaking up if the tank leaves and replacement isn't appearing within a minute. In a single player RPG, I could just keep trying myself, but I can't do that here.

Here's the thing where I'm not as persistent. I'm not really into grinding stuff.. dungeons, fates and things like that. I'm persistent trying to over come challenges, not somewhat mindnumbing repeating chores. And now I'm in a situation where my item level isn't high enough for the next story part and I lack the motivation to join those wonderful dungeon parties or chase around maps for the fates. Thankfully I still have plenty of other quests and things to finish, but right now it looks like I'm not experiencing the expansion content any time soon.

You didn't even bother to read the thread, did you. all of your arguments have been stated , like a dozen times, and debunked each time.

As it has been stated time and time again... Heavensward has been modified to allow players doing ARR story to not be required to do anything at all besides MSQ, and they will get the XP and gear they need to access Ishgard very quickly. No need to clear any dungeons more than once, heck, several sungeons are skippable, as they are not relevant to the MSQ. As for gear, Yoshida assured us that without doing sidequests or non-MSQ content, one can still achieve sufficient ilvl to clear Steps of Faith, the final gate to access Ishgard. It. will.be.faster. To go from ilvl 1 to 91 by exclusively doing MSQ, than the time it takes to 'grind from level 1 to 50 (ilvl 50 gear) today. That is a massive concession to newer players.


PSA: People really need to quit spouting uninformed conspiracy. It is misleading and unproductive. So many worries have already been answered with significant changes to the expansion to ease players' progression into the new zones, most if not all of these arguments are moot.

This game is story-focused and pretty much everything is gated by MSQ, it would make no sense to change this, it would create giant plot-holes. If someone wants to completely ignore ALL the story quests, and still be able to get access to all the content, they have chosen the wrong game.

As for your issue - I would suggest searching for a nice community-focused FC that would help you get through the group content you are having problems with.
Or use party finder - there is a "story, no cutscene skipping" checkbox for a reason.

Don't know man. A subscription based MMO requires a lot of commitment. Both in terms of time and money. So if someone is not interested in the story, and only interested in playing 3 of the 13 jobs they should really reconsider their choice.

And as it was mentioned a fresh 30 wouldn't be able to properly play a machinist or an astrologian.

It's this line of thinking that ruins games. I'm sorry but your view of how it should be is backward and the way they are releasing this content is asinine. Yes i finished the content which is why I know just how tedious it is to get to the point i'm at. And thank god I've been playing a healer because had i been playing dps? forget it. I'd probably still be trying to finish the story with 30min+ Q's IF you're lucky. New casual players are NOT going to want to do this and they shouldn't have to. I did it because I am far from a casual player and knew i had to do it in order to play the expansion. New players are coming into this blind are not going to be happy about it mark my words. Player retention is what square should be concerned with not "well they need to EARN it like it did" mentality. That's just an excuse for poor design. People are waaay too concerned about how other people play. You should be happy about your accomplishments because you did it yourself, you should not be happy about it because "new players should suffer too" that's a terrible way to think about this. It's pretty much the definition of elitism and elitism ruins games. Never cater to the 1%.
