New players in Heavensward

Hello, I have few friends who want to try the game when the expansions release. But there something i am afraid.

When they reach 50 with the main quest, they will be stuck with doing the 50+ quests of 2.x to reach heavensward, to do all primals and dungeons.
With all existing players doing heavensward, nobody will queue for old content, so the queue will be longer.

It's kinda bad to block people at level 50 and not allow them to reach the expansion considering theses quests doesn't take just few hours.

I'm sure there will be ways that players will have to do old content, like how it is now. Also there is talk to revamping of the low level dungeons to allow for non-standard parties to participate, maybe even solo them. Wait till they announce the new relic weapon and people find out they need to run Sastasha for some rare item drop. They always put in some way to make people run old content.

They change it that people who queue for a content the first time in DF get a higher priority.
And yes, there is always a quest, reward, rare item that bring people back to old content.

If you're a player who's been gone since you defeated Ultima Weapon or a new player who's just starting FFXIV, will the road to Ishgard be fairly smooth?

Yoshida: Yes. Since you'll get good equipment just from doing the main quests, it will be OK to skip other content. After you go to Ishgard, you might slowly get into things like extreme primals.


Will you be making it easier for players to gather people for dungeons and trials that are part of the main quest?

Yoshida: We'll be adjusting the rewards to further boost the clear bonus, such as gil or Allagan Tomestones, when helping players with a first time clear. We'll also be introducing a new mechanism to matching in Duty Finder where players who have not cleared content will be given top priority, so they should quickly be able to get into content. Not only that, but players will be leveling up the new jobs, and we've added all of the primal weapons for the new jobs, so that should help as well. As we move forward, we always want to create things with the mindset of helping out new players.

you can party up with them and do the content without being sync'd so you can blaze through main quests in 3.0, i believe. or maybe ask them if they can start now?

Most of the 50 dungeons are optional, there are only a couple that are required if the intent is to get to Heavensward ASAP. All they have to do is add the new uncapped lvl60 law(?) stones to the trial roulette and wherever castrum/prae end up and the rest of the problem will probably fix itself.

First time players will already get a priority queue over cleared players so I wouldn't worry too much as your friends probably aren't the only ones that will be starting fresh. I would be more worried for existing players trying to level the new jobs since the queues will probably be packed.

I can only assume they've planned for this, as it's a very obvious flaw if things are simply left as is.

If trial/story roulette give enough EXP I might use them to level alt classes.

This is also a concern of mine.

there are only a couple that are required

10 dungeons and 6 primals/trials are a little more than a couple. Needless to say there will still be help.

I think the biggest concern is locking people out of the expansion with that pre req. Usually games give you an early access to expansion(like 2 levels earlier), now people will be stuck outside.
