I refer to this thread I posted in December 2014. During that period I also gathered votes and opinions on all sorts of gaming forums, Twitter and Reddit, looking for support from other players.

I finally wrote a letter on my blog (link can't be shared unless in private message), addressed to Square Enix, telling them why I would love for us all to have carbuncle back at end game, and I'm so so so happy that they listened and gave us this opportunity to be reunited once more.

Thank you Square Enix! Thank you so much.

Not exactly. They're planning on introducing what amounts to 'glamors' for summoned creatures. This means that instead of using Garuda-Egi, you could choose to summon a Carbuncle with the same skills instead. It does nothing to the abilities you have, it's just for show.

Now if only they could put the same level of attention into the actual usefulness of Egi-summons, maybe we'd be getting somewhere.

I don't play smn but I do wish they'd have gotten some new summons. I'm tired of Garuda being everywhere as far as most raid content goes. Leviathan and Ramuh egi though <3. Anyway, grats carby lovers. They're baaaaack!

Maybe they'll give them Lavi and Ramuh glamours because at the end of the day it's all a SMN really needs as they have all damage sources alrdy Tank/Melee DPS/Range DPS so all they need is to add more skin's hey Presto.

Though in honesty with this community that's not good enough.

The potential for the summons glamour has me interested, since I know they don't wanna mess with the melee/caster/tank summons this patch. I just hope that is a flushed out system and not limited to just carbuncle. I know everyone would love have options of say shiva/ramuh/levi egi, even ravana/bismark are possible since balance isn't on the table for visual candy.

Oh not to worry, it's basically an optional glamour-sort of system option, where you can mask egis with carbuncles. This doesn't apply to scholars, only summoners.

Caveat though, this was mentioned in passing but I'm very certain it was mentioned for summoner - seeing as how they do not have to edit animations any further. However for scholars, would involve introduction of animations for carbuncles healing, so I doubt it's going to be implemented. All in all, it's a masking, glamour system, so since you're not a fan of them carbuncles, you don't have to worry

Can Scholars also use the Carbuncle skin? If so my friend would be super happy.

I think the glamour summon thing is kind of cool, it's like you have a familiar of your choice following you.

YoshiP talked about glamours for the summons in the same live letter in which he presented the new abilities for every job. When it was time to talk about Summoner, he basically said that instead of giving the job more useless summons, the dev team is coming up with a glamour system for pets through which we can change the appearance of the summon but not its abilities. Using that, we can even go back to use Carbuncle and (hopefully) Egis from more recent Primals (ie Leviathan, Ramuh and Shiva).

As far as we know, this does not include Scholars.
