Something I like to know about

I was wondering if all hm battles appear easier than expected, just like Ifrit HM (which didn't take me long to do), or are there any actual hard hm battles to come? ex battles are proper hard, aren't they?

Another thing, is there a way of obtaining a load of soldiery tomestones, as I'm thinking about going through main scenario roulette, as much as possible. With regards to leveling gear up, what should I think about first? Is there a way of obtaining lv100+ gear?

At the moment, I have unlocked 2 gear level locked battles (Leviathan HM and Ultros battle)

HM battles are easy because they're more than a year old and everyone extremely outgears them. If you want to do them like they were intended, find some people who will wear only ilvl 55 gear, and then it'll be much more fun.

Soldiery is obtained by just about everything. Hunts are a great way, they spawn very frequently and give a good amount of soldiery. You can also find new people and get the sol bonus in trials/dungeons to cap pretty fast.

All HMs are faceroll. No real mechanics happen till titan now, and even then the only way to wipe is by everyone falling, pretty much.

Trial wise, only EMs have somewhat difficulty, but it's hard to fail them since the average person overgears them by a lot.

For tomes, unlock all the dungeons you can and do your roulettes daily. You can also hunt, but IDK that may have been nerfed gear wise. Don't remember because I never did that much hunting, save for glamour and chocobo fruit.

And yes the Extreme fights are MUCH harder, even with groups of overgeared people, it comes down much more to battle mechanics and people knowing what to do than stats.

HM isn't really "hard" anymore. Garuda HM is a great example, the entire battle is just a zerg-fest now, no one even plays through the mechanics as they were designed anymore. It's kind of sad.

Ever since Leviathan the trials have been kinda funny that way... I think it's kind of weird that they label the story endgame trials as (Hard) just because they're at level 50 and require 8 people whereas the story ones only needed 4.

It's honestly seeming kind of like a joke at this point.

Start by doing every dungeon once, you will get bonus soldiery when it's your first time, and everyone in your party will get the bonus too.
Keep doing main quest, you need it to unlock snowcloak which is the last dungeon to unlock hard mode roulette.

You will also unlock a lot of trials which will give you bonus soldiery too.

Currently doing this on my third character, but I'm trying to gear up through dungeon gear only since I kinda hate the token system

So you know, the highest ilv a main quest requires is 90.

At item level 55, I believe you can go do Labyrinth of the Ancients? Drops ilvl 80 gear, and plenty of soldiery tomes to help you jump to soldiery gear pretty quickly. Get enough gear to bump yourself to average item level 70 and then sneak into Syrcus Tower and grab the ilvl 100 gear and yet more tomes. Should be at least 110 in no time with all that soldiery, then you can easily do World of Darkness and roll on item level 120 gear, plus start obtaining upgrade items for the 130 poetics gear.

That seems much easier to me than trying to go through 4-man dungeons or main scenario roulette.

Then start unlocking some of the dungeons that arent connected to the main quest

With ilvl 55 you can do these dungeons

Pharos Sirius
