Check out this FATE guide for the best areas to go.

If you play alot its easily doable to get to 50 in a week, though because of the daily duty roulettes the more days it takes to level the less total time you'll spend doing it.

Not really, other than as you level the amount of dungeons you can queue for increases, as you can go back and level sync down in a lower level dungeon, but you cannot enter a high level dungeon as a low level (as they have minimum level requirements you have be in order to enter).

Also no one seemed to mention it but another option around level 40 is to do the daily beastmen quests - each beast tribe has a clan of friendly beastmen who will give you a quest (up to three) once every 24 hours. At first you can only do one quest for them a day, but as you earn their trust more quest givers in that tribe will unlock and thus the amount of quests you can do each day also increases. These quests have a slightly different quest icon (instead of an exclamation mark, they have a speech bubble with a 'recycle' symbol).

The beast tribe quests are unlocked by a quest given by the commander of each Grand Company once the required level is met.

I also forgot to mention FATE parties. I didn't really mention it because unless you can actually form a FATE party, just soloing them and doing nothing else is not very good experience. FATEs are only viable if you're in a party, otherwise dungeons are better. That's why I mentioned only soloing FATEs if one happens to be nearby and actually can be soloed as some can't, and doing for challenge log. There was a time when FATE parties was the go to way to level secondary classes, but after they increased the experience gained from dungeons and the low level dungeon roulette, dungeons became more viable with FATEs done between. But strictly FATEs as sole leveling method is still just as good IF you can get a party.

I knew I was forgetting something in my post. >_< I was trying to figure out what it was, and it was beast tribes. Very good point, but just a couple corrections. You are allowed to do 3 beast tribe quests at first, then after going up a reputation level you can do 6 a day. So you would do the 3 highest and the 3 the next tier below the highest 3. Also, the level to unlock each tribe's questline vary. Level 41 for Kobold. Level 42 for Sylph. Level 43 for Amalj'aa. Level 44 for Sahagin. And level 41 for Ixal. The starting quest for Ixal is level 1, but the pre-requisite quest is level 41. I really don't think beast tribes are worth the time and effort if OP is only interested in leveling to 50 as quick as possible, but they are worth it for other things. I edited my original post to mention beast tribes.

Leaving this link here for the OP:

FATES are very quick, especially if FATE groups are running. when leveling NInja I could not get a que (it was like a 2 hours wait). If FATES are spawning at a good rate though you far exceed the experience for the same amount of time in a dungeon. It all really depends on the situation you are in though. You of course always do your challenge log (all items that apply) and do your hunting log. just be vigilant and get to every FATE and don't get lazy or it will just take you longer. Level isn't sexy or fun but there is an art to it. Hello Quarrymill for new jobs at 30...that area is going to be sooooo packed.

    Not in the strictest sense.

But there are ways to farm exp faster for example: you can get a party, enter dzemael darkhold, clear first room, then exit and rinse and repeat - apparently its insane exp.

How long does it take from 1 to 50? Depends on how often you play really. If you play heaps, I'd say less than a week? That said, you will burn out - I remember bringing drg from 45 to 50 in a day and I was so exhausted at the end.

Also re dungeons, just an advice based on personal experience - it is *great* exp if you have sufficient rested exp bonus but without that, I think FATEs are probably better.

That said, if it is a healer/tank class you are level-ing, maybe it is better to take it slowly so at max level you are at least decent in your job. I have met whm at 50 who doesn't know that shroud of saints regenerates mp.

You can power level between 1-15 im not sure if its possible at higher levels i've never tried. Basically a high level WHM puts regen on a low level player they arent in a party with. Then they attack mobs which agro the healer, the healer then holy's them to death and the low level player gets all the exp. It gets you to about 15 in 20 - 30 mins.

I don't think hunting log will work. I mean, didn't the new job will come as it is without having base class? And if I remember correctly, hunting log is based on class not job?
