Poll: Gear progression, horizontal or vertical?

This is purely a poll in reaction to the reaction I tend to see everytime new gear is announced. So in order to get at least a somewhat reasonable sample of the general forums opinions, I would like you to answer one simple question and save much of your debate for the other ilvl thead that's posted around here. Please keep answers short and easy to tally.

Do you prefer gear progression to be vertical: increases to your HP, and main stat, with side stats being an after thought.

Or do you prefer your progression to be horizontal pseudo with gear sets having relatively the same ilvl but with additional effects such as increased parry, self regen when in sets, counterattack procs, chance for a double auto attack, etc.

Or would you prefer a hybrid merely meant to slow down ilvl creep such as every other patch cycle introducing higher level gear and the even patches merely introducing sidegrade items: IE glamor options that you can actually equip and be useful instead of just glamor crystalling them

Power Creep, or gear you hold onto for ages. Unique traits or higher impact numbers. Vote below!

PLEASE KEEP DEBATE IN OTHER MORE APPLICABLE THREADS TO REDUCE VOTE CLUTTER

EDIT: The standings right now are as of 7:11 PST
    Vertical 20
    Horizontal 16

I like vertical in this game. Look at Destiny, it's mostly horizontal and people are excluded from content for lacking certain equipment. (Gjallarhorn or gtfo).

I realize that kind of happens to a lesser extent with ilvl requirements, but at least people aren't inspecting you and keeping you out content because of RNG... Usually.

Plus, I really like getting to the point where I can go back to older content and lay waste to everything that I once had to tiptoe around.

These are my opinions on my preference for gear progression in this game.

I'd say a hybrid. I want my gear to increase my main stats, but I also want it to have something to it that means I can reasonable see using it over a higher iLevel gear. What's the point in releasing a set of gear if everyone is going to throw it away the second something slightly better comes around. Gear near the same level should have a variety of stats that encourage people to try different things, instead of encouraging them to work towards the exact same gear set up.....

Unfortunately, you can too far in the opposite direction, as WoW showed us in the past.
Lots of occasions there where a set bonus on a lower tier of gear made the higher level gear worthless.

A nice balance could be struck, but getting that balance right is incredibly hard, as the theorycrafters will always math out which bonus is superior to ilvl gains and then that becomes the only piece of gear people want.

    I like horizontal progression.

Tbh I don't feel any motivation in farming gear in FFXIV as it will become obsolete a few month later.

horizontal until level cap increase or major expansion.

the fact that people are already whining about the incredibly fast and 'subsidized' ilvl gains that new players go through (about it still not being fast enough) kinda defeats the purpose of pure vertical imo.

Personally, for the way this game is I'd almost prefer they get rid of all the stats and just base everything off ilvl, so I don't have to ask any mathologists about whether I should get more Det or Crit or what the magic number for accuracy is or any of that nonsense. The way it is now, sometimes new gear isn't better than old gear, and that's dumb.
