The reasoning behind that, I think Yoshi-P explained during the closed beta, was that at the beginning of the game up to level 30 the Conjurer would be the one and only Healer class available. There wouldn't be any scholar before level 30 (and astrologian wasn't even a thing, of course), thus potentially creating a role unbalance in the early levels. The special mount was put there so more people would be encouraged to level conjurer at least up to level 30, so they could get their special mount for collection and go back to their main job.
Nowadays the problem is basically solved, especially thanks to the low-level roulette, but in the first months of the game it could have been potentially game-breaking.
Hey hey hey hey...
Warriors get a glossy bear. Let's not forget about us Warriors.
But I do like the idea of every class having a mount, and I like the idea of people playing roles outside their comfort zone. The best way to become a better tank is to know what a healer and a DPS needs to do in the fight. The best way to become a better DPS is to know what a tank has to go through, etc.
I mean, hey it might not improve your damage but it'd certainly improve your synergy with pickups.
So if every job has it's own mount, I think more people (at least the mount collectors) would strive to go out and learn how all the other classes operate. In the end, the player would better understand what can be expected of those classes when he's back on his main.

I love mounts and wish that all the roles had their own. I can understand tank and healer getting mounts, but I'd like to see DPS get their own as well. I'm a collector and they don't take up inventory space.![]()
Also would love to see more barding for my chocobo. Love to play dress up with my chocobo. Some very unique combinations have come from what I've gotten so far.
I love the Lion, but I wish the Paladin Barding looked more like the Paladin AF the way the WHM and DRG one does.
A piece of the floor for dragoons, imagine, floor tanking while traveling.
BLM : Arhiman
SMN : Primal ponies
DRG : New DRG mount
MCH : Magiteck armor

I have no problem with each class or job getting its own mount, except I play Elezen and that silly sidesaddle form makes me not use the unicorn or even want a pony type mount. So, if it was something I could ride without looking like I was going to fall off, I would be all for it.
Also, why does it look like I am picking my undies out of my backside when ever I am summoning a mount?
I have no prayer for that...
The initial reason the job-specific mounts were rewarded is to encourage people to play those classes. PLD and WAR received their job-specific mounts only after completing a certain number of 'difficult' duties as that class (aka, not just hard modes, but extremes or coils...). WHM (technically CNJ) did not have a defined reason for receiving the unicorn, and to be honest... the quest was kind of lackluster. It may have been to encourage people to level healer, but possibly no. I imagine that other jobs may received job-specific mounts in the future, but it won't be a priority because there's no functional reason to 'entice' people to play dps classes like there was to entice people to play tanks and healers.
Are you saying there are no dungeons before level 30?
