I thought they lociked old threads to prevent resurection of year old threads... Megahertz? oi. I wouldn't upgrade to 8 for a "performance boost". Windows8 is on rleease preview now, but still a lot of hardware doesn't have drivers available yet. Also it's not all that stable either. If you want performance, wait for 2.0 as they're migrating to a new engine that is more optimized.

Megahertz makes minimal difference. A quad core low voltage cpu running at 1.6-1.8ghz can often outperform a first gen quad core @ 3.2ghz. 1ghz = 1000mhz if you were unaware.

It works just fine on desktops. I have it on 2 laptops to test stuff. The noticeable difference is metro which replaces the start menu. If you use pinned icons andshortcuts you would not really notice a difference. Hit the start menu and bam, full screen tiles with apps and widgets. Weather, pictures, photo feed, pretty much what you would have on your phone for information at your fingertips.

I'm tired of hearing this crap. Look beyond the UI and there's alot of internal improvements to the OS. hell the UI took me only 5 hours to become familiar with it.

and before you bash vista, it was lazy OEMS cutting corners with drivers/software & using way below reccomended memory installations. I remember OEMS making "Vista Ready" PCs with only 512MB memory, the bare minimal for vista for the first year.

As for game performance it's on par to Win7 in reguards to FF14. I'm currently on the final RTM build.

I dislike Windows 8 because it broke (not supported) a fair bit of programs I use, but games are fine.

I've been feeling lazy this development cycle, so I have not installed it myself. As such, I only have screenshots and a few press releases to go on, but it looks like they have removed the single largest step forward in User Interactivity that Windows 7 made. Namely the Start Menu Search. Seriously, I use that thing for everything - forgot what folder a file is in, type the name; don't want to dig down to a game buried deep in a folder, search for it. Unless there is some analog I haven't seen in screenshots, I'm afraid I'm too set in my ways to change my organization just to accommodate them taking out a perfectly useful function.
