Mostly 'cause it IS broke. And has always been a bad decision , if only a small one.
What I was getting at was that the system that's in the game right now is working, although it's slightly annoying when a player gives themselves a ridiculous name.

Plus with all the content for patches they're doing now I doubt they'd have time to recode part of the character creator to allow optional surnames, it'd probably take at least a day or two to create a way of letting the live servers do it.

Therefore in retrospect it'd be better as:

"It ain't broke now, we can squirt it with oil to loosen the cogs a bit later though."

Which isn't a popular phrase, but fits the situation a bit better.
